The Greenhouse Thread

I have recently replaced nearly all my plastic panes with glass, the plastic would glex enough with the wind to pop out from under the clips. All panes now have 3 clips per side.
Depending on your location, how about some of those double walled plastic sheets? Gain some insulation while you can!
Thanks, should have said in my first post that I’ve tried this before, it does insulate as you say and it’s relatively cheap, however I found the edges a bit weak under the W clips and the whole thing was prone to flying out. Perhaps this is why the manual states a wider width for each plastics, because they flex? Bugger.Depending on your location, how about some of those double walled plastic sheets? Thanks everyone for their input, have ordered 3mm polycarbonate.
The end of my lean-to greenhouse seems to take the brunt of the wind and I've lost a couple of panes there. I was thinking of adding some more bracing strips to help stop it flexing - I don't like the way that plastic seems to go opaque after a year or two. There's already one bracing strip, but it's not all that big. No idea if it will work, it's only in the last couple of years that it's been an issue.
As said, Polycarb is the material of choice, often called Lexan in the States.
Acrylic is both more brittle, likely to crack and chip especially when cutting, and also softer and more likely to scratch.
It is cheaper, but not a enough to make it a sensible choice. Often called Perspex in the UK and Plexiglass in the States.

Tomatoes moved to the greenhouse from the kitchen today. Two varieties - one cherry one beef. It was 25c in there at lunchtime. Not bad considering the storm we had this morning.
Got to get some cucumbers and peppers underway. Might try melon this year too.
How is everyone else getting on?

I personally wouldn’t leave them out until mid-late May when they’re a lot bigger and the night time temperature is higher, we can still get a good frost until late May.
Or you have a heated greenhouse.
ETA. Toms are going well, my annuals (calendulas, marigolds) are all up, sunflowers are going well, just got to sow spring onions in my raised bed in a few weeks, that’s it for me this year.

I’m doing 2 varieties of tomatoes, 3 melon, a courgette, and a couple of cucumbers that I started about 2 weeks ago. Toms will go into grow bags in the greenhouse, the rest will migrate to the polytunnel when they’re ready.
I did some chilli seeds too but they were old and haven’t germinated so I have ordered some carolina reaper and a couple of other varieties to try and grow.
Lettuce, radish and carrots being planted in the polytunnel next week. I lost a big crop of carrots over the winter thanks to a rat that enjoyed eating the leaves when they were small. I think the rat responsible has now been dispatched and I have shored up the defences for this year! It’s like a scene from wallace and gromit with a sense of humour failure.
Happy growing.
