Windows are all due for replacing in May/June. There wasn't a plan to get them done this quick due to the cost but after having spent time in the house, seeing how many are just buggered, it needs done. Will be half frame on the inside with oak sills. Window company has a nice chap that comes round after the windows are in and touches up the paint and decorating.

Good thread OP, nice place and massive improvements being made. Looks like you are reasonably local to me so might shoot you a PM for tradesmen recommendations if you don't mind.

Absolutely, very happy with all the trades folk we've had in. Happy to recommend for Aberdeen area.

Great thread and great project!

Deffo the right thing to take loads of photos. I'm doing a similar thread atm (The story of #48), and that's making me wish I'd taken way more photos. You so quickly forget what stuff was like when there was so much going on... And looking back to how it all was before you'd started is way satisfying and helps you remember just how much work was entailed....

So.. love the new doors. Oak and Danish oil combo is a winner! How many coats did you use?

Getting rid of all that horrible dark wood is very pleasing as well. Although I cheated at my place and just painted it all!

Love the new front door and its position so you can see it while washing the dishes!

Looking forward to updates and seeing that staircase turn from ugly duckling to beautiful swan!

Thanks. Been following your thread as well. I'm a bit of a document-aholic when it comes to any projects I work on.

Oak doors have only had a single coat upstairs. Unfortunately ran out of time before I had to come away for this work trip. Also, and possibly more annoyingly, they didn't get a coat before the plasterer was mucking about upstairs. We'd been as careful as possible in covering them all up but there's some bleached bits on the middle bedroom door. I've tried to sand it out and will re-oil it once I'm home to see if it's any better.

Will end up giving them 3 coats though.

Single biggest mistake was getting the doors hung before we had the plastering and decorating completed.

Not a huge amount of updates today. Plumber back in to finish off the downstairs radiators and plumbing (minus a few things). Still getting a lot of rust on the filter magnet so bloody glad we decided to fit that.

Laminate floor in the hallway is Quick Step Classic Oak Light. In case anyone wondered.

Small update for the weeks end.

Joiner finished in the hallway and porch. Finally have heating back on in the house although still have three small radiators to get fitted once some other flooring is down. Will need to caulk and paint some little bits of the skirting that's just gone down but these are minor things.

Sharps re-delivered the doors for the hallway and master bedroom and should be fitting on Sunday all being well.

Once I get home I will be looking at the security system and likely buying nice new replacements for the IR sensors in the rooms. You can still see the hallway one bagged up from decorating.

Has your plumber done a proper clean & powerflush of the heating system? That's a lot of rust to be floating around through the boiler.

Lovely & light inside now.

Something to think about when the windows are done: before they remove the existing ones consider cutting all the way round the edge of the plaster with a multisaw. It's a big job but when they remove the old windows it's not a gentle process & I've seen some pretty signiicant damage to the plaster & your is already painted & finished.

Supposedly, but I will be getting on to them next week to find out if they did actually. I'm not home at the moment so having to rely on my partner keeping me up to speed.

I'll have a chat with the window installers and see what they have planned for the removal.

Time for some updates!

Highlights:

Sharps managed to get the dimensions of the cupboard doors correct and they've now been fitted.

Carpets fitted upstairs apart from lobby and stairs.

Have had word that the roofline will get started next Monday, so need to get on to the installer and flesh out the planning for the downlighters, security cameras and motion sensor lighting positions.

Windows have been pushed up for delivery end of April, possibly installation in early May depending on the fitters schedule.

Lowlights:

Karndean flooring - Original joiner had misjudged the depth of the plywood so needed to double up on the plywood base for the living room. Will need to run round the edges with a bit of caulk just to tidy up a few small gaps. Should have just laid them on the floorboards like originally planned.

Secondly, the edging / detail strips were ordered incorrectly. They delivered Chocolate instead of a light grey. Floor has been laid with the chocolate as a temporary finish but they're not stuck down. Edging strips on order.

Fitter has decided that the walls in the porch are not 100% square so wants to order up white border to fit round the edges. Means that we will have to wait again for that to be done, but will lay the main floor in the meantime.

Plumber has been back round, sorted the pipes in the porch and the downstairs bathroom. Small bit of patching to be done on the tiles where the old radiator pipe came out. Still waiting on delivery of the radiators for the porch and the bathroom as he'd ordered the wrong ones. However as it was his mistake, and the correct ones are more expensive, it won't be going on the invoice. (seeing as it's already been paid it most definitely wont).

Anyway, on to some pictures.

(yes I'm aware that it's a lot of footballer grey but promise there will be lots of splashes of colour!)

Single layer of ply (was told it was 9mm.)

Also in a hilarious turn of events. The plumbers said they would get hold of some kitchen units to use in the garage for installing the sink. They were ripping out a kitchen earlier this week and this is what they've turned up with and dumped in the garage.

Thanks, can't quite believe how far we've come in 5 months.

Have to thank my project managing partner who's taken basically 6 months off work to make it all happen whilst I head away for a month at a time.

On a plus note, movers have arrived at the rental place and will be moving over the last of the furniture today. So when I get home next week it will be to the new house. Which after a year and a half of boxes and moving between properties is going to be awesome.

Hah, still havn't decided what I'm doing with the garage. Painting it white was just an easy job to do to start with.

Not going to get much updates today as she's busy orchestrating the movers. That should be the last of it from the rental place.

Oh, and in other good news the built in dishwashers shagged so that nice little guitar i had pictured for the living room is now an appliance.

Loving every update to this thread beer It looks fantastic! I love seeing a progress thread. We've changed a few bits and pieces on our place, and it's easy to forget how bad it was before without plenty of pictures. I can't imagine what it's like having to oversee it from offshore though. Kudos sir!

Quick question; where did you get the replacement side door for your garage? It looks solid. Our current one is wood and is a bit long in the tooth!

This. Absolutely this.

I took a fair few when doing my place up, but wish I'd taken many more!

Aye, i reckon this last few trips away have been the worst ever. Just dieing to get home and get stuck in. So many projects in mind.

The garage door is a full on Solidor type composite door in an aluminium frame. Same specs as the front door. Just doesn't have any windows.

That's great thank you. It looks very solid, so that doesn't surprise me!

Hopefully you're back soon to get stuck back in. Especially if it means more pics on here smile
