Amazing that people feel the need to poke their noses into other peoples business when it doesnt have anything to do with them.

As I pointed out we didn't demolish it...it demolished itself when it fell down. Would appear another busy body who doesn't even live in the village moaned that it was too big & out of keeping.....it's the same size materials & details as the original it's just not covered in the ivy that held the previous one up.

....anyhow all got formal planning approval yesterday.

Wtf.. Probably somebody with a chip on their shoulder after having a upvc clad garage app rejected or something. Assume approval includes conservation officer approval or is that a separate approval? Big fan of those hinges btw

It was actually a local counciller that moaned! Conservation was all part of the same approval. They had no issues at all. We'd faithfully replicated what was there in terms of exact same footprint, same ridgeline (6" below the brick building on the end); same location of doors & windows; same materials; even replicated the dormer that had a door to a hayloft in the original structure & installed a fake door. All that was changed from the original from an exterior perspective was to put the garage doors on & run the cladding horizontal as opposed to vertical. Conservation officer inspected & said it was totally in keeping with the original & the area so no problem & no comments. Given some of the horror stories you here about planning & conservation it was good that common sense prevailed.

Sounds like a good outcome, as well as a good job you didn't deviate too much! Well done.

Looks really good, and a very usable space. Do you have any plans and or photos for the brick structure?

So the new garage replaces the rotten old thing on the left. The brick building is basically an open space inside. I think the big windows look very good, but need replacing. The structure is perfectly sound & it has it's own power supply. Walls are plasterboarded with some sort of textured covering. Wie have lawful development cert to make to residential ancillary to main house. I'll be honest I need to get back & get the junk in there cleared out then I can see what really needs doing.
