I use one of those LED edged mirrors which I can just wave my hand at and it lights.
WOW, had one of those for years and have always had the same issue as the OP.

Thanks, OP and thanks devnull for solving a nagging issue I've had for years but never thought about solving smile

Bite the bullet and use Phillips Hue lamp with either a wireless switch or motion sensor ( i have both) but be warned you'll want the whole house done with it and it aint cheap. You can evn programme
them to flash on and off red whenever Man Utd. score a goal hehe

Ours is like a drive by shooting, 2 bangs to switch on....2 when its pulled off...i quite expect someone will one day call the tactical firearms team out

there IS a quiet 2 way pull (see link) but its 6A, mine is 10A, it operates a light and extractor fan.... ive bought one but cant decide to risk it or not

I just leave mine on all the time - it's only a few watts, it won't break the bank...

6 amps is 1500 watts - pretty unlikely you've got anything like that. The whole lighting circuit is usually on a 6A breaker.

+1 for a PIR turning on a night light, with auto-off after a set time. Have them in all our bathrooms. Extract fan is wired into the same circuit.
Have a second conventionally switched lighting circuit if more light is desired.

We used to have a cheap one which was very loud and woke the kids and us up at night when used. Bought one of these on recommendation http://ebay.us/l3Le50?cmpnId=5338273189 and it's much quieter than our previous pull cord- not silent but significantly quieter than the standard ones. Would recommend it having had it for a couple months now!

I had mine on a PIR (Hue) but then the PIR died, and I realised it was just as handy to have the lights set to on all the time, dimming after midnight so you don't get "night picensoredss blindness".

Can anyone recommend a silent bathroom light pull cord switch? Lighting installed is LED and not compatible with dimming. My search so far has failed to yield a suitable product.

Whilst there is a certain comfort in having an early hours sit down pish, it would be preferable to have lighting available without creating a click that can wake an entire house.
Use the noise of the flush to mask the sound of the switch.
