I used a biscuit cutter on my router, which made it quite difficult to see exactly where I was cutting. Any tips to help with this?
Buy a biscuit jointer, I got one from screwfix for about £60, not actually got round to using it yet though.Somebody a few pages back mentioned struggling to paint mdf, I was advised to use moisture resistant mdf as it's better to paint.
You can get pre primed mdf but generally mdf is a st to paint, paint, rub down (De-Nib), paint again, rub down (de-nib), repeat until you get a finish you’re happy with.
Regarding biscuits, festool do a great bit of kit called the domino, it’s not cheap so not really for a hobbiest but the accuracy is great and it makes a very sturdy joint.

Some fantastic work turned out in this thread
Currently knocking up an Oak Porch after telling the missus ‘I can make that’ when she was on the verge of buying a kit for 2.5 k
There are times when i just wished i had let her get on with it, Oak gives you blisters !
Curved tie beam cut.
Trimmed up a bit.
Mortise and Tenon not my favourite pastime without a chain mortiser
Just got to get it assembled now. This is the kit i copied.
If it ends up looking half as good, i’ll have saved her 2k, which is better spent on beer

As long as the weather holds up have a big weekend project to crack on with in the shape of a lean-to for the in-laws, somewhere neat and tidy they can get their mobility scooters under and have then safe from the rain. Measured it up the other week, just been back and recheck my measurements then I will go and pick up the timber on Saturday morning and go and cut it all and build it at their house. Will take pics as I go, should only take a day to sort if I can crack on without the FiL chiming in

Is that even possible? I mean, aren't FiLs somehow contractually obliged, no matter how skilled the SiL may be to know a better way to do everything and to ensure that this superior knowledge is imparted at every opportunity?

"How did you do that? Oh, really? Didn't you think to do it....."
"Wouldn't that be better if you'd....."
"When I did mine I......"
The thing is, he's a complete bodger. He refinished their dining room table recently and he couldn't work out why the finish was so poor - I swear he'd poured cheap B&Q varnish onto it.

The guy is 84 and until recently was a very capable wood turner, however his eyesight and lack of dexterity have stopped all that. He would have done this himself once upon a time and it will kill him to have it done my way but that was the deal, if he wants it done then it's my way or he can get one of his sons to do it. When this was put to him he pondered it for a minute and said "Your way it is then wker!" high praise from him He will sit in the garden and watch every cut, my wife is going to run interference if he starts piping up, I reckon we wont even get as far as bringing the timber in before he starts

My FiL in his 80s was a retired draughtsman in the aircraft industry. He was changing the size of his conservatory and asked me to make new window frames and roof rafters to accommodate the new shape and size and gave me a bunch of drawings.
So I built that stuff with no further input from him or having looked at it myself, took it to site with trepidation as he hadn’t picked up a pencil for 20 years, and guess what... yes, the brick walls were in the right place, the angles and sizes of my work slotted into place perfectly and was joined together in a trice. I put a quick roof on it, and we were done in the same day.
Absolutely amazing drawing skills, lovely man to boot and it is sad he is no longer around.
