What's wrong with just leaving it be an enjoy sharing your garden with wildlife?
Badgers are TB infested pests and Foxes are vermin, NEITHER should be in a town/garden, a brown rat is more "natural"

Wrong.
We are the only vermin on this planet, not a fox or a badger going about its natural business in its natural environment.
If your man made polluting house and 'garden' was not present, this would have been there natural environment, fields, trees, woodland and open land.
Why do people want to destroy nature and other living creatures constantly?
Go and murder a few billion humans instead, that would help this planet and its biodiversity massively.

It appears whatever it was has moved out, I put some hay/grass over the hole about 5 days ago and it's still undisturbed
I will give it another week or so and dig the area
