Just got this: https://en.bett1.de/

Two sides: one medium, one hard.

Takes a week or two to get used to and then after that, very comfortable.

If you have any issues with being too warm at night, foam will almost certainly exacerbate them.

Been to look at mattress today. Was suppose to get one over a year ago but really don't want to spend the money keep convincing myself my current one is OK.

Few things to note

1. Some of the big bed shops are like second hand car sales. Telling me all the discounts I'm getting and trying to sell snake oil. Really got on my nerves.

2. I still can't decide between foam or springs!

3. I don't need a machine to tell me if I like a firm bed.

Anyway now I'm getting shed loads of adverts for beds and still lost what to buy / how much to spend.
i ended up at so to bed shopin oxford. thought theyd be too expensive and not my thing but they could not have been more helpful. have a vispring arriving shortly and if its too soft i can swap it for free after 30 days something thats not advertised. fingers crossed its the right one but literally went everywhere.

Tried loads of mattresses for our holiday let. Hypnos way over rated in my book. We bought very comfortable medium pocket sprung mattresses for 500 each on king size. Just did them online.

All our guests comment on how comfortable the beds are.

Is that a foam one ?
Hybrid, apparently there’s springs in there as well as foam.

However, the pillow top design kind of puts me off, is it just going to end up flat and worn quickly and without the option to flip the mattress?

IKEA? Seen a few positive reviews and they are very cheap
Precisely !

I took their foam one back - it dipped pretty quickly, in the returns queue of 9, were three more mattresses.
You do realise that when you spin a mattress round (not flipping it) you'll sleep in a totally different place?

I'm amazed that almost every advert on TV now seems to be for mattresses. Presume China is pumping them out for £1 each?
Many UK mattresses come from Batley in W. Yorks, it's bed capital of the UK.

Get a hybrid, they have both.

Well I came here for advice and have learned nothing! Just 4 pages of opposing opinion.
According to Which? Eve and Emma are the best around, although they don't seem to have tested any John Ryans. Presumably as it's only millionaires and PH directors who can afford them wink

Well that's good to hear - but why the sudden wall-to-wall advertising and 'Try it for 100 nights free' stuff? Every ad break is top and tailed with ruddy mattress adverts!

Little bump back up on this one - we have finally decided we need a new one - our last was fro a local warehouse type place for about £300 and has served us reasonably well.

Looking at the online guys this time...

All prices in King

Premier Inn - £599

Eve original Hybrid £608

Emma Premium £695

Simba Hybrid Pro £837

Not sure the simda is comparable with the others seems to be in the next catagory up.

But not much to call between the others on price.

Eve & Emma seem to get the best reviews & Which like Emma...

No idea which to go for to be honest!

We've got an Emma at the moment, I'm one who would favour sleeping on my back, but Wife will tell me off for snoring, so I end up side-sleeping and I've found recently that I've got hip pain when I wake as it's a medium-firm mattress. Just added a Panda mattress topper to it this week and seems to be relieving the hip pain issue, though a bit too soft for when I do end up on my back. Gonna give it another week or two and see, but my conclusion from all this is that I hate getting old and creaking everywhere...

I am in the same boat, all be it neck and lower back pain, combined with generally being overly tense personal is certainly a pain in the neck!

Me too. Hip pain in particular, so intense that it wakes me up and I have difficulty getting back to sleep. I'm often awake for three or four hours during the night. I've been mulling over toppers and mattresses so may give a Panda topper a go first as it'll mean we won't have to find somewhere to store our king size mattress while we trial another.

We looked at them - based on comfortable nights at Premier Inn - but came to the conclusion that long term they were not the best purchase...
One of the issues with the pillow top is that you can't turn the mattress (squashes the pillow top) which apparently shortens lifetime - and found a lot of reviews / comments on forums saying that the pillow top went flat in a few years...

I also quite liked the idea of a mattress made from natural materials and in the UK...
Yup, this. It’s much better going for one of their regular mattresses and buying their wool or cashmere mattress topper separately. The topper can be replaced as needed.

We need a new mattress and so far on this thread all the main players have both positive and negative reviews.

It's a minefield.

I spent ages reading all the mattress reviews, and had thought I would get the PH favourite John Ryan. I was put off by the recent poor reviews on here so decided not to go with them
I have a 2000 pocket sprung natural Ortho mattress and divan set arriving tomorrow morning. The main selling point for me was that you could turn the mattress, as nearly all the ones I'd seen were rotate only.
I hadn't heard of the name Espoir before, but it seemed very comfortable. I look forward to trying it out smile

Well I'm discounting Nectar on the basis they don't seem to know the relative lengths of cm's and inches.

hehe

Sometimes more is worse - 6" of gubbins just means it's more likely to subside over time.

Useful thread. We ended up needed a king size and went from Emma Premium - its on the firmer side which we like. The price variations are large though. We ended up buying from Amazon UK which at the time was £50 cheaper than Emma site direct with all types of codes.

I’m a bit surprised at people want to know an answer about which is best to buy.

The same company will make a range of mattresses that suit some people and not others.

You just have to go to a bed shop and try lying down on a few.

One mans fluffy pillowed heaven is another mans sore back inducing soft POS.
