New mattress advice

I’m a bit surprised at people want to know an answer about which is best to buy.
The same company will make a range of mattresses that suit some people and not others.
You just have to go to a bed shop and try lying down on a few.
One mans fluffy pillowed heaven is another mans sore back inducing soft POS.

We got our mattress right on the third attempt.
Attempt one - John Ryan. Intenet only. Way too soft and not comfortable for the price. Returned.
Attempt two - Tempur memory foam. Bought online. Just couldn’t get on with it. Too hot and had to fight the mattress to get out of bed every morning. Returned.
Attempt three - Fed up of buying online. Went to Bensons for Beds. Tried umpteen beds over a couple of hours. Ended up buying a bed that wasn’t on even our list. We tried not to look at the price or type of mattress. Just jumped on and rolled around for a few minutes on each to see which one we liked.
My advice is definitely go and try them for yourself. If we all liked the same, there would only be one bed available.
Would anyone buy a refurb Simba?!
Currently half price on ebay meaning you can get a king size hybrid pro for £260...
You lose the 100 night trial & the 10 year guarantee though.
Got to be worth a punt.... just give it a going over with a UV light once it arrives.... right ???

Presumably had a maximum of 100 days use? Was looking at mattresses last night and stumbled on this thread this morning. Emma Premium King is now £584 online…. Very tempted as I had been looking at John Ryan.
Edit: are these hybrid foams really that good? Something tells me that I should stick to a traditional pocket spring mattress. No idea really…

I bite the bullet and finally took delivery of a John Ryan Origins Comfort last week after doing a lot of research on the foam type mattresses too. No regrets whatsoever! Extremely comfortable, soft but supportive. I went for the soft rating because my partner and I are both fairly light, otherwise I’d have gone for the medium rating. The mattress is so thick I’ve had to buy extra deep fitted sheets.
The next range up is quite a bit more money and the only difference is natural fibres instead of man made which didn’t bother me.
For anyone debating it, just go for it.

I recently brought an Eve hybrid mattress but had difficulty with the flame retardants in it. Was coughing at night, it irritated my airways and I woke up with stabbing pains in my lungs, so I sent it back. At first I thought I was coming down with something, but going out, spending some time away from the mattress, the symptoms vanished, only to appear again after sleeping on it. I noticed my hands and feet developed a weird dry slick feeling as well.
Had no effect at all on my Mrs however.
Eve took it back, refunded me after a few weeks, so no problems there.
After this debacle, I would go for natural fibres every time. Wool especially doesn't need flame retardants and meets legal flammability standards in its natural state.
I was somewhat taken in by Eve’s Okeotex and Centipur certifications. I discovered they mean the raw materials in the foam and mattress covers are certified to be less noxious, however, they don’t stop mattress manufacturers spraying on a cocktail of chemicals to meet flammability standards, so are effectively worthless.
Started watching some documentaries about these flame retardants, they are known carcinogens, but its LAW that all foam furniture comes sprayed with them. Although they work well in isolated lab tests, they make minimal difference to real world fires, because so much other stuff in a home is combustible and one of the experts was questioning the validity of their use in a domestic setting.
I will also add one of my toddlers came out in a major rash after rolling around on the Eve mattress. It was the first and only time she has broken out in hives like that. Can't think what else could have caused it.
