The last time I visited was when they knocked down the old mansion where the deaf school was and built those lovely new mansions. I think that visit was about 15 years ago.
The old deaf school mansion is still there. Just one big house/hall now. Those new Octagon houses were big at the time. They're tiny now compared to the Park Lane developments taking place. Some of them way too big for the plot. But I suppose those moving out of Central London aren't used to big gardens anyway.

The guard on the main gate is only really there to control commercial traffic.
You probably wouldn't recognise it if you haven't been there for a fair few years. Wall to wall McMansions now. I only really walk around there once or twice a year and every time I'm amazed by yet another huge redevelopment. We were the biggest poshest house in the road when we moved in 20 yrs ago. Now we're the smallest scruffiest.

The whole area is another world. At least £500,000 for a grotty 3 bed semi the last time I checked!

Ah yes, I completely forgot they renovated the mansion. I really do need to revisit! Those new Octagon houses were big at the time. There is still a mix of properties but fewer and fewer of the 'old' ones. Just as there are still Tarrant houses in St George's Hill although most are sold on the basis of a plot for redevelopment. We almost bought in Burwood Park a year ago but ended up outside.
I suppose there's a premium for living in Burwood Park. There are plenty of other desirable roads in the vicinity. Sounds like you're around Ashley Rd? CharlesElliott said:
Yes, Octagon pretty much cleaned up in the 90s / 2000s, and now Park Lane, iLife and others are taking them a step further.
Yes I see what you mean http://parklanedevelopments.co.uk/park-lane-develo...

It's about £4-5m for a typical new build in Burwood Park at the moment, although existing houses start from about £1.75m.
St George's Hill (not Park) starts at about 2m....in fact, I would say most of those 2m houses are good value because they are period houses that are out of favour when each house generally has a 1+ acre plot. So that's 2m to buy a house and knock it down in order to build your 10,000sq ft replacement. But planning in SGH is more difficult than Burwood Park.
The cheapest new build in SGH currently is 7.3m. The 2.25m house and down are not actually inside the estate.

Hill! Pardon me. That house is lovely. Last time I was there was back in the days when Cliff Richard used to live there! SGH is a strange fake feeling place. I never even remotely warmed to it.St George's Hill (not Park) starts at about 2m....in fact, I would say most of those 2m houses are good value because they are period houses that are out of favour when each house generally has a 1+ acre plot. Ive built about 7 or 8 of those McMansions.
We looked at a Tarrant property in SGH. I actually quite liked it, it had loads of land and a lot of character - and a triple garage. But it needed a lot of money spent on it and it was already right at the top of our budget. And it was one of the few original properties left.
I know what you mean about the McMansions, there is a very cookie cutter feel about them despite their size. But then I have an Octagon house now so I've just got a 20 year old, smaller cookie :-).

Very nice. Octagon have some very nice products. I was at one of their primary rivals for 6 years. I know what you mean about the McMansions, there is a very cookie cutter feel about them despite their size. But then I have an Octagon house now so I've just got a 20 year old, smaller cookie :-).

Blimey, there's Octagon houses in the Ashleys too? I really need to take a drive over and revisit my past. It sounds like there's been big changes since the late 80s, early 90s.
