Im going to ring 1st bloke and suggest, as xmas is close, a bit of cash wouldnt go amiss....
If I can get it for £2200 I'll be happy.
If he's doing it off the books for cash how are you going to get him to honour any warranty or remedial work? After all, there's no record of the work being done.If I can get it for £2200 I'll be happy.

If someone comes in with what I consider a fair quote I tend not to haggle. Everyone needs to earn a living, and I don't want them cutting corners.
ETA, be wary of a heating engineer who can fit you in before Christmas.
Yep. In general with trades the good ones aren't available & the available ones aren't good.ETA, be wary of a heating engineer who can fit you in before Christmas.
Cheap, quick, good.....................Pick any two.

Ok, how did the price compare to Boxst? (did you get a quote off them?)
Marginally dearer, but he is local and gave off the right vibes if you get my drift....Replied to all comms very quickly and arrived on time on the date agreed.
All looking good so far, apart from the fact Im freezing my tits off as the back door is open as they go to and from the van.....

Not really complaining though, great job and saved enough to buy my american fridge freezer with ice machine he is also plumbing in wooooo! Dreams do happen.
(Dreams also cost money, since I got my wish apparently she needs her wish.. that dwarfs my fridge cost)

I wonder how Boxt manage to do next day installation? The guys must have to drop jobs in order to meet Boxt's demand.I tried for my house, near Chester, and it offered me a pukka looking guy from Stockport. I wouldn't want to use anyone that far away (it's well over an hour during normal commute times) and the guy's website shows I'm long way outside his normal covered area.
They finally left here at 7 last night, everything done, cleaned up, tidy and shown how to use the controls.
Nice to have unlimited hot water again, and the thing is so much quieter than the old thing,
Adding the rad in the kitchen is a small, but very luxurious (to us!) touch and Im glad I did it, makes the world of difference for that first coffee in a winter morning.
I knew I was a good judge of character - talking to him, turns out he runs Euro Track days for Bikes and also knows the ex bike racer I work with.......
