I unscrewed mine but then needed to hook the bottom section back up to screw and seal it back up achieving zero. Could have got myself into a bit of trouble so don’t try it.

Plunging will more than likely bring up loads of grease and hair, pretty grim, ideally don’t let it wash back down but easier said than done.

If you stick your finger down and feel around the outer edge, the will be a small hole - this is where the water goes. It's a shallow "P" trap so will always have water in it. Often just poking the hole frees a lot up.

Chuck half a bottle of cheap Tesco drain cleaner down. Leave for an hour or 6, then flush.

I have to do ours twice a year, plus the occasional hair removal (other half!) witha finger.

The reality of out bodies malting is just something you have to deal with :-)

Well, thanks everyone!

I have an admission - my wife had removed the inner part to clean, so I didn't realise that part should have been present.

Anyway, with that removed it still wasn't flowing well, so before seeing the recommendations to use a cleaner I resorted to the kitchen waste plunger, which actually seems to have worked.....!

I guess some cleaner would be the a good idea anyway.

Many thanks again!
No you did the right thing, the sink plunger is by far the best way rather than slinging noxious chemicals down it.
