Sorry to hear that. What colour is your lock?
Pic makes it look white, but it's probably more off white in reality. Seems the grey or black locks are fine.

Such is life.

I'll get hold of a CO2 extinguisher and make sure I don't run it when I'm not home until they replace it. (Haven't been given the option yet on repair/replace so we'll see what they communicate in due course)
Curiouser and curiouser as Alice would say! If yours is white/off-white and mine is white then why is yours a problem and mine not? When was yours bought? Perhaps after a particular serial number onwards is clear but before more troublesome.

Edited to add that I have just gone through the checking process online once more and again been assured that my machine is not affected. To date, though, no confirmatory email has arrived.

Purchase was Feb 2016
Mine is the 9 digit Serial just inside the door aperture

No email either.

I checked my indesit machine but was disappointed to find it was not on the list.
Shame as I would like a new machine to replace the old one which is starting to get noisy.
Will they replace like for like? Or will it be an offer to fix it (10 mins) or accept a standard cheapo washer to replace?

Ah thanks. Mine was September 2018 and has a twelve digit serial number. Perhaps that's the significance. Good luck with getting it (or a new one) back in action asap.

My duff machine was bought in March 2017, it has the off white lock.

I noticed that when selecting lock colour on their website, the white and off white locks were one option, the other two colours were separate options.

I had 4 options for serial number label types offered and input a 9 digit serial number against the one I selected.

Did that check yesterday evening but have not had an acknowledgement yet. Hardly surprising given the numbers involved.

My machine is affected. It's also not my machine, it's part of the tenancy with the house...

I emailed my lettings agent who asked me to do the recall thing. I did write a line about not wanting to be without a machine that I contractually should have for long, but did the online thing last week. Heard nothing so far.

My mum said she will do my washing, so I can pretend to be 17 again, although I will use it when I'm home, the isolator is within easy reach so I can knock it off if it goes, and it's been fine for the last year and a bit... No more setting it to come on the timer whilst im at work now though...

Got my email from them today. They are doing a like for like replacement free of charge.

Went through the booking just now and it will be delivered on 14th January.

Pretty good given the numbers involved.

No email for me yet.

Do you know if its a brand new machine

OR

A "reconditioned" one

Personally by preference is
Full refund
Brand New
Repair my one

And not at all anything pre owned!

Sorry for not replying earlier. It is a brand new like for like machine on sale and in stock at all the usual suspects at a roughly equivalent price to what we paid originally. Same capacity, same spin speed and an A+++ efficiency rating.

I have just disconnected and moved the old one outside as I got a text this evening saying they will be here between 9 and 12 tomorrow morning. Lumping washing machines around and washing floors is not my idea of an early morning.

Still no contact from them on the email confused

I did screenshot the "you have a stter" webpage though at the time. If I've not heard from them by the end of month. I'll call them

I'm getting this bucket of magnificence on Tuesday as my new machine under the recall. It's probably identical to the machine I have now bar the different cabinet, I look forward to it being recalled in the future too...

Being fitted Tuesday, so I get to work from home

I don’t want to cheer you up even more, but I doubt it is being “fitted”. I think it is being “delivered” and the old one taken away.

I had removed mine for collection and installed the new one (transit bolts, water and electrical connection). I don’t think the delivery drivers are tasked to do that deinstall / install, but I didn’t ask.

Pretty poor form that they recall it and then don't reinstall it as well! Why should you as the consumer have to pay for a fitter to do it? (Yes I can probably do it just fine, but Gladys 86 from Peterborough probably cant)

Well they've offered me the same unit as the poster above.

Only the one they are recalling is better than this offered unit!

Currys also have the same model as I already have in stock. (presumably with a better lock)

A phonecall will be going out Monday to ask them why they feel they can offer something not as good in exchange! rolleyes

Heads up for anyone in this position.

Spoke to Hotpoint and pointed out that the offered replacement was not as good as my existing machine. I pointed out that X model was probably the closest equivalent.

They said that the offered model will vary depending on stock levels so log back in periodically and check. Logged back in the same evening. And they had changed my offered replacement to the X model I had mentioned. This may be coincidence or design. But I accepted it and chose today as the install date.

It's being handled by "Knowhow" (Currys) so my delivery/install window was "afternoon" And they called around 5 to say they were running late and they'd be another hour to hour and a half. 2 chaps turned up, took away my one and installed the new one. Set a 30min test cycle and were gone with all the packaging too. Very efficient and in my case no problems thus far. Also get 1 yrs warranty on this new one.

So far so good. Test will be this week when I run a proper load.

Seeing the replies to this, no, they dont install.

Mine is wired into a fused spur under the counter. I didn't say anything and waited for the guy to complain, and he did. 'Can't touch it mate'.

This left me in a quandry, as I rent. In the end I ran an extension so they could plug it in and check it turned on and away they went. My lettings agent was (still is) in the process of being bought out by a competitor as the owner wasn't protecting the deposits, so I knew calling them for an ASAP electrician would be a barral of laughs, so I elected to just say nothing, pulled the fuse out of the switch above the counter and just wired it in. I felt confident doing this, however as said above, Gladys aged 86 1/2 wouldn't.

I did write a post on Hotpoints facebook wall about it incase it helps others and someone did respond saying they would pass my feedback on but I imagine them caring about that when dealing with a PR crisis and giving away £££££ of stock is the last thing on their mind.

One bonus was I had the chance to give behind the thing a really good clean, probably not been done in decades by whoever cleaned the place before tenancys, and the new machine is much better than the old one (but I know in 8 months time when its had a bit of wear it'll go loud again, but meh.)

Only issue I have now is the warranty. I had the warranty card, serial number and model number in the car to drop into the office so they could register it (as it technically belongs to the house and not me) but the office is empty, the new owners are re-locating it... So the warranty is still in the car. Tempted to just register it in my name and have done with it, but I've had a lightbulb holder blow itself to bits since then so I think a full on visit is needed to re-complain about bits I've already complained about and mention this as well...

Fair enough.

If I was the landlord I would get a spark to put a 13amp single socket on the end of said fcu.

Is there some advantage in registering it - extended warranty etc? I doubt many people bother - I don't.

Something was mentioned on LBC this morning. Didn't catch everything that was being said so just Googled it; apparently there is a further update with a few more models added to the recall list--> Clicky.
