Just got the following email.

Looks like the expected price increase, and also a bid to improve their cash flow by asking for early payment for renewal (at existing price of $49.99 per year).

FlickR said:
We’re writing to inform you that effective today, the price of Flickr Pro subscriptions has increased to:

1 month: $6.99, plus tax
3 month: $18.99, plus tax
1 year: $59.99, plus tax
2 year: $117.99, plus tax

To thank loyal Pro members for your continued support, we are offering all current Pros the opportunity to renew now at last year’s price.

Why has the price changed?

Please see last month’s letter from Flickr's CEO and Chief Geek, Don MacAskill. In short: Flickr is a huge and extremely costly service to run. We intend to keep investing in making it even better, but it cannot continue to operate at a loss.

If I renew now, what happens to the remainder of my current subscription?

We will extend the term of your current Pro subscription. For example: if your current subscription expires in July 2020 and you choose to renew now, we will add an additional year to your subscription at the 2019 price, extending your subscription end date to July 2021.

Sounds like they are going the way of Photobucket.

The guy from smugmug was basically begging recently as they are cash strapped.

Honestly I probably would have paid for pro if they didnt threaten (then go through with) deleting photos.

So for now, fk em.

Not quite a like for like comparison as they already charge for the Pro account, but the price has been increasing:

2014 - $45 for 2 years
2016 - $45 for 2 years
2018 - $50 for 1 year
2019 - $50 for 1 year
2020 - $60 for 1 year (or $50 if you renew immediately).

I have to admit that I do find it a useful service for hosting photos for sharing, and also as a backup (in addition to local disk backups). It also saves me from paying any money to Apple for iCloud storage as iphone photos are auto uploaded to a private FlickR album. It's mainly for this reason I will probably continue to use FlickR provided no further significant increases in the near future.

Exactly this.

Storage is expensive, but I can't help but feel that their infrastructure is wrong and they've got too many people in the company doing nothing.

Dave.

I can't help thinking that they're so desperate for money, that even if they do claw a load of renewals, they won't be around to fulfill them anyway.

I don't think Flickr will be in 12months.

For me it's worth keeping purely for the hook in with Pixsy.
