How does your energy company know you use oil heating for the payment?
I assume the government know who is ‘off grid’ for their heating? --MPANs are unique codes assigned to everyone’s electricity supply. The government determined whether an MPAN was eligible by taking a list of all domestic MPANs and removing those which are on the gas grid or where the local area predominantly uses electricity for heating
--households eligible to receive £200 AFP have been determined using:
1. GB post codes where there is no active gas meter connection as of 13 December 2022
2. mapping active GB post codes to Lower layer Super Output Areas (LSOA) using ONS National Statistics Postcode Lookup
3. census data on heating type
4. the MPAN report produced by the Retail Energy Code (REC), which will be accurate as of February 2023. "

Received an email today saying £200 will be in my bank account tomorrow. Scottish Power.
You probably realise but this could be a scam as I got the same message by text - I’m not a SP customer and when I contacted them they just said “thanks for letting us know but it sounds like a scam !”The credit is paid by the Electricity company to your electricity account direct and not your Bank anyway unless Scotland is different of course.

Has anyone heard anything from Octopus about the £200 alternative fuel payment? I can't find anything on their website about it, and I know some suppliers have already paid out.
Mine has appeared in my octopus account as a credit dated 14th Feb.arcturus said:

Some companies are adding credit to your electricity account, some will pay to.bank. account. I am with British gas shot are paying to your bank account. Can't remember which companies are doing what, as I was only concerned with BG. It was announced on local radio yesterday that the companies will start paying this week.
Do you pay by Direct Debit to BG? I've only seen that they will be applying it as credit to the account for the £200 rebate on the FAQ pages.trixical said:

The £66/67 payments have been credited to my electricity account, then refunded the same day to my bank account.
No gas in the village, nearest supply is in the local market town nearly 5 miles away, so pretty much everyone uses oil, with a few using storage heaters.

Upcoming transfer for £200 from Ovo now showing in my bank account, so it all appears to be working as expected.
I've asked to withdraw £150 of it, and been told up to 7 days for Octopus to review and up to another 7 days to make the transfer. Fair enough there are costs to Octopus of administering the scheme but the interest on however many million the government gave them will be a nice little earner. I had no notification at all that it was there so it could've sat there for a few weeks until I submit the next monthly meter reading.
Same here. We transitioned from Bulb to Octopus a few weeks ago which seems to have been seamless. I did a reading and submitted it on Monday. Alternative fuel support payment was credited to the account on 14 Feb. We haven’t had a DD payment taken this month so it looks like our credit balance was used for the monthly payment.
