It will rise to 70+ppl before tax widespread pretty soon.
Ordered 1000 litres @ exactly 70p before tax today.

We're getting a bit low anyway, and due to have the roof retiled next week (been on the cards for a while, slightly short notice of our turn coming up!), so I didn't even look at the trends, I just know it's going to be cold and we won't have much of a roof at times... I want a full tank of oil!

I put an order in with our local oil buying club earlier this month -- they managed to get 65.75 ppl (plus VAT) a week ago.

Gouging bds is right. Taking advantage of the news cycle.

Up like a rocket, down like a feather.

Global heating oil dropped from $273 yesterday down to $262 now, a 4% drop. Wonder how long that 4% 'feather' will take to wash through lol.

Todays $262 price is 10% lower than the average price we've seen through Autumn and winter, and still 5% below the average summer price in 2023

I ordered 1000l at 64p (+VAT) yesterday. Offset by the fact we actually have run out of oil and had to buy 90l at 99.9p per litre from local petrol station and reprime the pump.

I just google mapped it and they came up. As above it’s stupidly expensive and messy to put in the tank. I also had to make 3 trips as only had cans totalling 30l. The boiler would drain / pump below 90l it seems as I tried at 30 and then 60 …

TLDR: don’t do it, and pray for delivery!

I haven't ran out once where I am now(touchwood and have been there for 10 years now). However at the house we lived in before this one it had an oil fired AGA, and I ran out a few times there because the AGA got through oil really quickly. I remember using a traffic cone upside down when I used those little cans of oil...but I still got oil everywhere though!

It was times like that when I wished that I was still on gas in fairness!

Hah, running an AGA sounds akin to fueling a super tanker in your own home.

My parents have one and have an absolutely huge twin tank system that can hold 3-4000 litres.

We installed oil heating just over a year ago, I worked out the kwh the old elec storage heating and hot water used, cobverted that to litres of oil in a year, added 20%. Result is 1500 ltr tank needibg one fill a year.

How do people run out?

Get a bigger tank and keep it full?

Quite economical.

I'd love that kind of economy, and I presume that you have a really big tank. I've only got a small 1350 litre tank, and I ordered 500 litres last month in December, and I've just had another 500 litres delivered on Monday. I need a much bigger tank really.

Yes and the oil fired AGA's do fly through oil for sure! The house did have a pretty big 2700 litre tank or thereabouts...and I still managed to keep running out! hehe

I have learnt from my mistakes since them though.

As you say...running an oil fired AGA, is like running a really big petrol V8 or similar I reckon! biggrin

Only a 1300 litre tank.
I guess we haven’t really had the heating on much as it’s been very mild until recently.
I’ve actually got the heating on now as it’s -5c at the moment.

That is really good going. I had 5 oil deliveries last year, and I would use the heating a lot less, but my missus likes it on, whereas if I'm in on my own I generally don't turn it on until its really needed.

We have UFH in a couple of rooms, and that seems to use far more oil than when you just have the radiators on. I think without the UFH our usage would be loads less.
