We had a pear tree stripped overnight by bd tree rats. I'm seriously considering upgrading my "garden gun" to a Mossberg pump action as the boss is livid and it's an easy sell at the moment.
In other news the pond wall is finished and just needs a tonne of shingle shifted behind it for drainage. It's a bit hot ATM... And I knocked up a pallet bench for the view point.

I’ve tidied up the gardens today because I’ve neglected them for over a week since being away - and I’m away again week after next so probably won’t get to enjoy them anytime soon.
Kind of have some stripes in the Secret Garden (I’ll never have a nice lawn because too much countryside and trees and wild stuff and a push mower).
Does anyone know what this plant is? It’s flowered before but I can’t remember what it looked like. Have two of them given to me by an old lady. It’s almost Yucca like in it’s leaves and trunk
And a wild Foxglove has appeared in it’s pot much to my delight
The Aldi Acer I stuck in a pot is loving life
Most of my Gladioli haven’t flowered yet but not to piss on Harry’s here’s one that has
Anyone else’s lawn been really variable? I reseeded mine last summer. The soil is boulder clay. Three ish weeks of not mowing due to holidays and some bits are 15 cms high almost and very green. Others barely have grown and much less green.
I can’t decide if it is the soil having dried out earlier in the summer and despite the recent rain, it’s too late? As farmers are struggling too.
Or maybe I need to add more fertiliser or compost to improve the soil in some areas?
The areas nearer edges and under / around trees seem to be going better which seems odd as they get less light?
Bad
Good

Same as mine. Lobbed a load of Aftercut green up stuff on it around the time of the rain recently. Its helped massively but I still have some iffy areas - I did use a spreader so it had reasonably even coverage. Not sure what to do next, water a lot perhaps.I can’t decide if it is the soil having dried out earlier in the summer and despite the recent rain, it’s too late? As farmers are struggling too.

Ps that looks like a bowl of baby vomit.

Please don't!! That's what I've done a month ago, and a big chunk of my lawn completely ruined. I thought it was contamination but two lawn experts confirmed, this is very aggressive red thread/fungus, due to heavy watering...It's getting better at the moment by the way, but still loads to recover!!
Since about April when we first sketched out our garden plan this is what we spent our weekends doing, however Covid19 restrictions and shortage of hardware supplies held us back initially.
You can see the various changes in weather, from the drought conditions of April and May to the wetter months of June and July.

Wildflower mix has delivered... Sunflowers?
Weird, but welcome.
Some of the otherplants that have grown up are huge at four feet or so now. Yet to flower, plenty of buds.
Other late summer stuff is doing well.
Some gladioli survived the animals.
Biggest garden challenge right now is squirrels. Lawn is covered in acorns/cauls and debris that even a petrol rotary mower does not pick up, and lawn holed from where they are burying things. Never had this problem before this year!

I think a hound is the best repellent for all these mini animals. I suffered a lot when we first moved in here. Feral Cats, Foxes, Squirrels..and neighbours getting a few rats! My beagle hound is so grown up now, she is on a hunt all day in the garden, none of them getting any closer. The feral cats were the worst, it took more than a 6 months to scare them away finally.

I have Muntjac, Pheasant, Owls, Woodpecker, Fox, Hedgehog, Squirrel and various other wildlife ‘in my back garden’ or at least just a few feet from. I’m with you on the dogs, and possibly my cats too warding them away. There’s a squirrel who torments my Chihuahua around 4pm every day. The dog knows and sits and waits for it to run up and down a few hundred feet of fence. I’ve found a couple of Walnuts buried on the garden before but nothing for last two years (since said dog arrived).
