We've been getting some absolutely bloody enormous beefsteak tomatoes in the last few days.

Also, the tiger ones have won the race of the maincrop toms - although we've been getting an average of half a dozen cherries from 3 tumbling plants a day.

I'm just waiting for my San marzanos to ripen. It'd better be the best bloody passata ever!

My Gardening Express Acer is doing a lot better.

The original growth is still quite withered/scorched in places but there's plenty of new growth that is a nice deep red colour. If I remember I'll get a picture up.

Probably the last bit of work this season. The front bed which I dug out a while ago is now planted.

Looking good DA.

I've got 12 days off from Thursday.

I have promised myself that by the end of it, there will be no trace of bamboo in either my front or back gardens...

We shall see...

Did we discuss the goat or pig option? They’d go through that like a hot knife through butter.

Just posted this in the Caturday thread but also garden related

I’ve started my Catio extension this evening.

This will be the porch

Door will go in here in to main garden with tunnel to existing Catio

Cats will have access to barn with their own lounge and en-suite.

It’s just a Cordyline and some non invasive Bamboo. There’s Wisteria across the top of the Catio which maybe gives that appearance. It’s more screening and greenery than anything.

Loving the tomato crop - our first year growing, won't be the last!

These are all from the last couple of days, using a tiny cheap greenhouse from aldi.

Had a little planting session over the weekend:

Hebes and Cordyline into the new flower beds.

I'd like to get a passion flower to grow in a pot over the pergola... and recommendations of where to order from online?

Our sweetcorn has been fantastic this year. Never had any luck with it when we were on on Hampshire chalk, but we moved to Shropshire and loamy clay last year, thought we'd give it another go, and what a difference. Three good cobs per plant and fully pollinated too.

I don't think anything's contrasts home-grown v shop-bought for flavour than sweetcorn (maybe peas are a close second; they were also very good this year).

A patio and bbq / pizza oven area. The table and chairs is on an area that was a horrible rockery. Bbq area includes an egg, pizza oven, Asado grill, spit area behind asado grill, smoker box behind pizza oven and gas bbq in the middle.

The front part was all dead area hidden behind laurel and other uninteresting hedge. The curved edge on the gravel drive is where it came up to and to the left where the sleepers are was a fence - basically it was dead space that we’ve opened up and made the whole front much brighter along with the new grass path down the side to join front and back garden.

Climbers in pots never seem that vigorous. I'd look at a clematis, in the border, it'll scramble over that like nobodies business and soon soften the structure.

You can choose exactly the variety from https://www.taylorsclematis.co.uk/

Just make sure you pick something evergreen. I have lots of climbers and the majority of them are unfortunately woody twigs come Winter.

Speaking of Winter I’ve tarp’d up the Catio this evening and finished the alley porch off at the weekend. This means I can leave the back door open and the cats can come and go* I’ve started clearing the barn out (again as did this a few years back) which will be a lounge area and safe place for cats, they’ll also have an en-suite fitted with Litter Kwitter.

(Also handy as I’m having a new kitchen smile )

And hedges neatly trimmed.
