Ouch. Think I paid £350 in December
What for?

1 bloke and a Bedford Rascal?
To be fair £2k sounds like proper removals money, not a few lads and a van from Bradford.

It is, 2 Luton's won't cut it so we're getting something bigger

This was always the one big expense of the move. Used Strike for EA so next to F all there

Done moves in the past and just wanted the easy life for this one

3 blokes and 2 Luton’s with insurance. To be fair I got a good rate as I’ve given them plenty of work over the years…. But on normal rates I’d expect £600..

Do you mind if I ask when (if you know) your solicitors requested the funds/certificate of title? Just trying to get an idea of lead times for receiving funds (we requested Tuesday, still awaiting confirmation).

Thanks
No idea sorry

Been sending weekly emails to our solicitor and just kept getting back that we were good to go but we were waiting for update/confirmation from our buyers solicitor

Then at 9 this morning email saying despite missing the deadline for requesting the cash on wednesday she was sending the request anyway and we'd just keep our fingers crossed and aim for the 30th
No probs, thanks. Sounds like very similar to us (also booked for a fingers crossed 30th completion smile). Good luck!

Proper removals money with 2 days notice at the busiest few days of all time is double that.

Any form available at 2 working days notice, during the busiest period of all time.....eerrmm, I'm sure they're great.
It's either these boys or nothing!

I'll take my chances

Sounds like we’ve all moved to Devon. I moved to Beaford a week ago. Loving it so far but I have to admit to not realising just how much hard work gardening is.

Absolutely shattered and I’ve barely made a dent in everything that needs doing so far.
I'm feeling like that after 3 months here!

Definitely pub time then biggrin

Grandma's house went on the market last September and an offer was accepted in October. We are top of a chain of three, so not too complicated. My dad is handling the sale...

Last time I spoke to him, his buyers were having to sort something out for their buyers (something to do with the drains), but he couldn't get any update from the EA or conveyancers. They asked for confirmation on various details, which he sent over (twice), without any acknowledgment. Searches and surveys are all done, so we're quite far down the conveyor belt now...

if the stamp duty window passes, they may not be able to afford the house and the chain may collapse, which would mess up the timeline that I have rather foolishly set out for myself.

I really think we (technically "they", as I'm, not involved in any meaningful way) need to be suggesting exchange of contracts soon. I'm not even sure if the contacts are written up yet..? shout

And this is all before we get onto the actual sale of our house and purchase of a new one. Yay...
Looks like I tempted fate by writing this. Just at the moment the contracts were ready to be signed, the bottom of the chain pulled out. Our buyers are very upset (they'd already consulted architects etc and were really keen on the house), and we are now back to square 1, but with the asking price £20k lower than it was last summer.

Looks like we won't be able to think about moving before the end of the summer, and that then puts the earliest possible completion date well into next year, which is too close to the wedding for my liking.

Still, we have our health, our jobs, and a roof over our heads, so no big drama in the grand scheme of things. Onwards and upwards...
Quick update. The second sale of my grandmother's house completed on Friday. It was a little bit bumpy towards the end, and I think Dad had a bit of a sharp reminder why he hasn't moved house since 1984, but he stuck to his guns when they started playing silly buggers days before exchange and they backed down, allowing everything to go through as arranged.

I'm currently interviewing estate agents and will have my home up on the market by the end of the week, all being well. Our search area is quite broad, so there are a few houses that look okay on paper, albeit not of the quality that there was 6-9 months ago. Now the "fun" really starts...

Even at £600 for a day that's a steal.

After a 14 month roller coaster ride we finally get the keys today woohoo
We're not in a chain and currently renting so will steadily move our stuff over the next few weeks. We both have work commitments too and the place needs a lot of work so it's far from your normal completion and move in day.
Apparently we have to go to the EA and pick the keys up from them at 1pm so we'll be headed over in the car with some cleaning stuff to see what we've bought.
We're probably going to move with my van, trailer and help of friends with vans too, right on cue the clutch has just failed on my van so won't have that until Weds (hopefully).
It's funny but I've just remembered what my mother said when we were kids 'Why can't I just have normal children?!'

A few pics of the smallholding with farmhouse and 17 acres nestled into the edge of the Pennines:

Scaffold will soon go up, that horrible paint blasted off the stone, repoint in lime, re-lay the stone slate roof etc and get it water tight for Winter.
A heck of a lot of work to do over the next few years.

Sorry Mum, i'm far from normal laugh
Great stuff - love it!

Would love to do this at some point.

Not far off now...
Glad it's all done now.

I was going to mention the story of some friends of ours whose seller was committed (as in, to a mental hospital) between Exchange and Completion, but thought I'd wait until you were sorted. smile

Thanks smile No phone lines, no mains water, no mains gas.
Internet via a mobile router and the coverage is V.good.
Water via a bore hole and/or well, LPG gas and log burner.
But you have electricity?

Beautiful...congratulations! That's a lovely spot!

You'll forget all the stress pretty quickly, especially if you're going to dive into refurb works straight away!

Enjoy in good health thumbup

So many twists and turns in this whole house buying saga. On Friday my brother was informed that his sellers have had a bereavement in the family and won't be able to complete by the 30th, just as my solicitor was ready to sign his side off and my side off and our buyers too .As we don't want to risk losing our buyer my brother has decided to rent for a month at a friend's while I'll be able to complete my purchase by the 30th. All very touch and go, informed our solicitor this morning of the plans so she's now rushing around to get that sorted. I've booked days off work and a last minute Luton van has been hired, stressful isn't the word!

Sounds stressful, but hopefully will all come together in the next 48 hours. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Have exchanged today, 6 weeks after first viewing the house! Had a near miss with another house that we nearly bought, fell in love with it and had our offer accepted only to find after the survey that the roof needed re doing and would cost upwards of 30 grand due to it being very old and listed. Mrs and me were gutted as we didn't think we would find anything else with so much character for the money (300k in the south east doesn't go far!)
Happily now we are moving (tomorrow!) into the most perfect house, built in 1450, garden, amazing views and tons of character and I couldn't be more excited!
