When it first came up for sale, I thought "there is no way that anyone could guess what the costs will be. But it will be massive". I wouldn't be surprised if it were more than £500k.

What intrigues me is that they want everyone to know what they are doing but to remain anonymous. They also have a good line in large format information boards.
I think it’s refreshing to see - there were many in the town worried that the house would be demolished for a building plot for McHomes.

It’s not like they can hide the fact they are renovating it!

Fortunately it’s grade ll listed so demolition would have been very unlikely smile

It was listed immediately before it was marketed for sale.

I do like a bit of Art Deco, but to my eye that property lacks the elegance of many Deco properties.

yes

It has a curious brutalist-deco feel to it.

Have to agree. It’s not a good example of AD elegance

Interesting the note about removing the rooftop pool - the structural engineer probably made an odd noise when they had a peek at that.

To engage to that extent with the locals has a whiff of 'executive flats' even if they say they're going to 'live there'
I understand that this is not the case.
I'm trying to work out why they'd go to that level of engagement with the locals. Maybe I'm just way too cynical and they might be quite considerate.

Might be so they/contractors don't get bothered by nosy people so much.

There might be a more cynical reason but it's a big plot even for an area of big plots. As some one said some of the facing properties have been split and redeveloped over recent years. The rodedendrons blocking view of it from the road for years and almost blocked entrance have just added to curiousity of what will happen to it as well as the realisation that it has features such as a roof top swimming pool. A lot of people will be glad to see the main building restored and if they keep it as one site it'll help keep some of the old character of that area.
