Clevedon is often cited as nice by PHers, but does it really merit these valuations, and have they really trebled the value since buying in 2013? A box on the back seems a little unimaginative...

Dunno about Clevedon, but we're just outside the typical London commuter belt by time - and locally there's been a huge amount of upward movement on decent sized, nice family homes with the ability to setup a home office, etc.

An identical house to the one I bought two years ago sold last week, in under two months from listing to completion - for more than 20% more than we paid for ours just under two years ago.

Another (older, different house) went for a price i couldn't believe (perhaps £200k more than I'd have pitched it) after two days on the market...

Again, another swift market/offer/completion. I can only assume people are either leaving rented London family homes, or have already sold in London and are cash rich.

Certainly, I'm often considered mad for living where I do with a daily commute of 3 hours. Now, with that likely being 1-2 days a week or fortnight - those same people are asking about the area/houses/schools...

The house is tidy enough, with planning for another. And all the land aswell. But that location. So much want.

They seem to have taken photos on the 3 days of the year it's not sunny.

Oh, and for the 2/3 weeks of winter there is snow the place will be almost entirely cut off from civilisation! Be a nice retreat though.

As for passing harsh judgement - taste is personal and subjective.
Kind of ironic you posting that when you're happy to offer an opinion on the trainers thread laugh
What's ironic?

I always qualify that it's my opinion. As opposed to passing judgement as though I am the sole arbiter of taste, and looking down my nose at anything that doesn't conform to my tastes.

So no, not ironic at all. Feel free to find a quote from me that suggests otherwise.

JoshCowin & Gameface are regulars of both threads, I'm sure they'll tell me if I'm talking bks or not.

Apologies to everyone else for the derail.

In the assumption that the photos haven't been saturated to f*ck, there's some very cool colours/contrasts going on there, I reckon.

That either sounds like a euphemism for some butt stuff or one of those sentences to check a typewriter has all its keys.

I'm clearly not wealthy enough to understand why you would want or need two ensuites to your master bedroom.
Presumably there are planning reasons why there are no windows in the North/South faces of the house? Those rooms at each end feel a bit compromised because of it.
I suspect that there are a lot of women who'd be more than happy not to have to share 'their' bathroom with their husbands hehe
Blokes too! wink

When we finally do our dream self build, it'll be fairly modest - but each side of the master bedroom will have their own dressing room and en suite. Partly as we have very different interior design tastes for these things, and partly as no matter how much storage or organisation I create in our current dressing room theres piles of laundry on top of chests of drawers and dirty clothes strewn over the floor. None mine!
Sounds the me like you need a new wife, not a new dream house. She'll still be fking messy where you can see it!

This made me laugh out loud, excellent.

As regards that lake house, has the old house been cleared already as per the later pics? If so that effectively a £1m building site? I don't fancy the big she'd they propose as it's replacement. I'd rather have saved and extended the original house which has a charm of its own. Just imagine that landscaped properly too. Would have been beautiful.

ETA I've just answered my question by reading the ad. Shame I think.

You 100% look down your nose at trainers that aren't to your taste. And that's fine. It's normal. Everyone does it to an extent.

"Seriously, those are definitely among the ugliest trainers I've seen posted on this thread - imo."

Adding 'imo' at the end doesn't mean that you're not disparaging the trainers. Of course it's your opinion and so long as you know others will think differently, and you're cool with that, which you are, then the world keeps turning.

Anyway, most of the comments here about refusing to buy an £8m house or whatever because there's a sex pond in the garden are made tongue in cheek, but you recognise that surely?

You've taken a post of mine completely out of context in an attempt to prove your point.

Here's the context, with my bold for emphasis -

Someone convince me these NB Pro Court Cups aren't brilliant looking. £75 on the official website and about £40 in all the right places. Tempting stuff!
I say again - I don't look down my nose at the choices of others, because choice and taste is subjective. The above was said in within context, and qualified with it being my opinion.

I don't, not have I ever, acted as though I am the sole arbiter of taste - which is where the roots of this particular bicker stems.

Regardless, this is as much as I'm willing to indulge you and I won't be responding further.

A lot more than we can afford and we'd never buy a listed property - but I do rather like the look of it.

Lovely building, but instinctively I'm thinking that it must be a money-pit to run.

Is that the case?

No idea, but I can't imagine it's cheap. Top rate council tax, gardening services, poorly insulated, requirement for qualified/specific tradesmen and period specific materials etc I suspect it's noisier than the photos suggest due to being next to a station road, and near the M20 / HS1.

A work colleague has bought a large (8 or 9 bed) unlisted second property down that way and he said he was getting buildings insurance quotes back of £3k pa.

that actually took my breath away - stunning (I liked the proposed new build too)
That’s lovely. Need to be committed to living literally in the middle of nowhere though.
Wow. Is this somewhere wet and cold for 8 months and then full of midges for the remaining 4, though?

I was more meaning the actual building itself - as opposed to sundry costs like insurance, council tax etc.

I mean, that's a pretty old building, with lots of old wood in the structure.
