Was just given a load of lime for free by tree surgeons who took one down in the next street over.
It's a pretty terrible firewood by all accounts, but I thought useful for the chiminea/kindling, or filler logs to keep the burner ticking over in between burning more interesting stuff? Anyone have experience of seasoning and burning it?
Also, the best firewood is free firewood, right? At the very least, will provide some exercise with the axe.

Had another tree come down. Deciduous, dark heartwood, thin and smooth brown bark.
Is it beech?
Trusty little electric chainsaw did the business, but I used a maul to split as couldn't find my axe. Overkill...but only had to drop the maul on the logs from chest height to split.
Tree also had some sort if woody, evergreen vine parasite growing on it, which may have been part of the problem. Rotten at the base.

New toy. My old x25 got nicked by a mate, so I et him keep it and bought the longer version. It was £50 from FFX on ebay with a January 20% voucher...
Will keep me warm this weekend as I attempt to split a load of horse chestnut and lime rounds. Not the best firewood, but free and I can season it for a couple of years.
