I don't think we'll ever see the levels of air traffic we did pre-lockdown

Used to live just to the side of the flight path a mile and a half from the threshold. Could see the pilots of f16's during airshow week as they came in to land. Really noticed the extra aircraft noise when we moved to Camberley. To be clear I don't mean relief from the extra noise of Fanrborough, I mean the extra noise in Camberley. Farnborough was small quiet business jets, Only really noticed the odd big one manoeuvring and the Sunday night commute departing. Camberley on the other hand is on the flight-path from ockham stack to LHR final approach turn in at circa 4000-6000ft and at peak aviation was a constant stream of jets which you get used to and ignore as they aren't that loud but also the occasional outbound 747 to south africa screaming into the sky, but really noticeable was also the general aviation single engine prop aircraft at 1000-2000 ft darting around the corner of the LHR ATC and threading through the danger areas and Farnborough ATC, oh and the helicopters making their way up the M3 to the London hele routes It wont be the Farnborough traffic you will notice. it will be Chinooks and Apaches at 3am or helicopters making loops/hovering while waiting for clearance into London ATC. Get close enough to the airfield and it keeps them away.

Been 8 years since I moved from pondtail in Fleet so it may be different now, but plane noise was never a real issue then and most took off over us.

Saw some great sights at the airshow over the years, first public flight of Concorde. Airbus A380 flying at what appeared to be walking pace. The Americans getting lost and flying past the wrong airfield. Saab Vigan in vertical climb over the runway.

Just don't leave your washing out drying when the red arrows are flying low with their smoke, You end up with little coloured dots all over your white sheets, or you did in the 70's.

Pondtail only ever really suffered from engine test noise from pyestock but that's long gone now

Used to love the noise of those engines, lived in cove when they were running those tests. Very different there in those days.

Appreciate the replies everyone

Reminds me last time I was at Farnborough Airshow they have a Merlin engine static test, I don't think they warned everyone as they fired it up and it generated to most amazing amount of noise and smoke and crap all over everyone. Great sight!

I'm about 3/4 mile north of the airport the noise here is never annoying, although I'm a moderate aviation enthusiast I guess. When the wind is right there can be some idling noise. Living around The Swan may well be annoying though, but most aircraft departing in that direction are very high by the time they get overhead. Arriving aircraft are pretty low though, but obviously they are much quieter.

Oh yes, sometimes the Royal Engineers at Minley will blow stuff up which can be heard all over town (and apparently shake your house if you are in the north-west). They were doing it overnight a few weeks ago, apparently it's scheduled at all times of the day and night to keep the guys on their toes.

I'm feeling very old, it was about 20 years ago I left Farnborough having lived there for 3 years whilst at college.

Looking on google 2 of the places I lived in have been demolished, 1 was behind the swan and the other up near the main entrance to the airport.

We ended up living on Cambridge Road East for a year, nice enough place but back then the town was quite uninspiring.

They set of some corkers this morning, about 10 blasts went off in quick succession. I rather like it, it warns anyone up to no good in the woods that the army are around! hehe Where I am we get the small arms fire from Sandhurst and the explosions from Minley woods.
