2.4kW cooling (with all three in operation) or 2.1kW heating (with all three in operation) - https://www.electriq.co.uk/files/pdf/Iqool%20TRIPL...

You have overlooked that they are heat pumps so 1kW of electricity delivers multiple kW of cooling or heating, with the “cooling power” quoted being the result of that multiplication.
Great stuff, thanks!
So at 2.4KW / 10A, could that (legally) be taken as a spur off the ring main into an isolator outside? A direct supply from the house CU is not an option as it’s on the other side of the house.

My other option is to run an armoured cable from the garage CU as it has spare ways available, and bury it under the new patio that’s going to be built. I believe this is the better option, but will be more work!
Sorry, no idea! Just pointing you to the specs in the information leaflet for it.

Been following this thread since last year and am looking for some thoughts/advice please.

Looking for a split system for the primary living room in the house, have an ideal place for mounting internally and positioning outside.

My best analogy when buying white goods is I tend to buy Bosch/Neff/AEG not the cheapest nor the most expensive but seems fairly decent quality. (Appreciate Bosch do their own too).

Is there an equivalent AC unit & any recommendations of companies on the Herts/Essex borders?

Thanks in advance.

I’ve had a Daikin for about 3 years in our bedroom. Make sure you don’t skimp on the power, better to get more powerful model that can easily keep the room cool than a smaller unit that’s running constantly struggling to maintain temperature.
Brilliant piece of kit, we used Adcock who are Cambridge based but have offices around the country, would definitely recommend.

Very little difference in performance between them, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Toshiba etc. I prefer Mitsubishi but I also prefer Makita instead of DeWalt - none are bad, they will all do what you need them to do. You might have a tough time finding an installer at the minute but if you do get him booked in ASAP, this summer is going to be crazy busy...

Look up Temcon air conditioning. (they are on instagram too) They did ours in herts and worked out the cheapest for a 2.5kw daikin

Many thanks for the responses, appreciated.

Thanks for the tip re having an over sized one, rather than the opposite. With the room being part vaulted the overall volume is likely to need a fair sized one from what I can work out, & I’m hoping it will provide some coolness to the lounge next door too!

Also thanks for the names of companies, I’ll give them a shout.

Cheers & I’ll advise how I get on.

I’ve just had a quote to install a/c in three rooms. I was surprised at the size of the systems recommended. Two of the rooms are 7.5m x 4.5m and the other is 4.5 x 4.5m. All three rooms are south facing with large glazing/windows.

Proposal is to fit 7kw in larger rooms and a 5kw unit in the smallest room.

I appreciate that the glazing and southern aspect will have an impact but these units seem over the top to me.

Thoughts?

Funny you should say that, following my above post I’ve had three people in to quote.

Rooms 6.7 x 5.2m & half is vaulted. Likewise it has large glazing which is south & west facing, 5 - 7kw is what’s being recommended. Solar gain being one argument, plus I want it a bit oversized so of an evening I can open the lounge up & cool that too.

My experience is that AC doesn’t go from one room to the next.

Blimey - that’s heading towards 80 amps. You might need to upgrade your electricity supply.

You do not understand heat pumps.

I have a 27kw 3 way split providing three decent sized upstairs bedrooms with 9kw each. I find on really hot days I can stick the bedroom units on and leave all the doors in the house open, and it cools the entire house right down to a comfortable level.

I started a thread on this a couple of years ago.

Finally took the plunge and bought one of those cheapish ElectriQ split units for the bedroom.

The bedroom was pretty unbearable with just 2 of us last year so would have been even worse with a baby in the room. Not looking forward to installing the outside unit 2 floors up off a ladder, should be fun.

Core your hole through first, then rig up an abseiling figure 8 or karabiner, whatever you have, anchored from the inside with the figure 8 hanging outside. Makes it simple to hoist your condenser up.

Me and a mate carried mine up two extension ladders on either side, the hardest part was manoeuvring it out over the L bracket on the wall, it was so difficult at one point I was in favour of just dropping it and going to the pub instead.

It's better to have one guy hoisting it (most will be 30kg or so) and the other up the ladder - your cored hole is normally to one side of the L brackets so you can have your mate pull it up then you swing it over onto the brackets.
And don't stand under it, obviously...

I've been looking at this for our bedroom as we face onto the road with a level crossing nearby.

I'm a bit surprised at the quotes I am getting, so looking to go DIY I think.

Daughter has jumped on the band wagon also...

I seem to have a choice of a 2 unit split. But this requires a professional to install it, or at least commission it. I doubt getting one will be easy.

My other option seems to be 2 independent units, which is a £250 more, but probably be able to diy fit.

Likely to be the ElectricIQ option, I would prefer to power the outdoor units. Does anyone know if it is possible?

I don't want the outdoor units hanging around at high level, so am planning to mount these on wall mounts at lower level, and perhaps hiding cables and pipes inside a downpipe....

Any comments?

That's a good idea. Will dig my climbing gear out.

It arrived yesterday. Typically my kit of 3 core drill bits didn't have the 65mm one so bought that. Borrowed a vac pump, gauges and bought a adapter to fit the 1/4in fitting.

Didn't realise they'd moved to propane for the refrigerant, no wonder the F gas peeps are getting angsty.
