Oversized boilers that cannot ‘get rid’ of the heat do not cope very well.
A 30kW boiler attached to a 12kW system will constantly short cycle and be subject to higher temperature deltas.
Much older cast iron boilers didn’t suffer as badly being oversized because of their construction but modern boilers are delicate in comparison.

t these days. Mums dishwasher broke down just over two years since new. Nearly £400 quid worth of DW. Currently battling retailer.

30kW is pretty entry level for a gas combi.

It applies to all boilers. 30kW is pretty entry level for a gas combi.
The lack of modulation or range rating on oil combi boilers makes them the worst of the lot. I detest oil combi boilers, they always end up leaking.
If it’s impossible to fit a separate cylinder along the oil boiler (which it’s claimed it is but never is) then a buffer vessel would help, although if there is space for a buffer vessel then there is space for a cylinder plus oil combi boilers are expensive!

Our last Worcester boiler (a very large inefficient floor standing one) was well over 25 years old before we changed it.
So was ours. I replaced it 2 years ago when the waterj jacket started leaking. I chose a modern Worcester Bosch boiler, which is no lightweight. It weighs in a fairly hefty 270kg. I was rather hoping this one would last a similar length of time.
