You need 3 lengths of 4m wide for three rooms, not a lot of wastage there. But if your carpet isn't available in both 4m and 5m rolls, that 4th bedroom means you're paying for 5m width in the other three rooms too.

If you can find something that is available in both widths, or go for a close match in the wider room, you might knock some cost out.

Yep as he said you can also get custom woven (shaped carpets) but it costs obviously but sometimes can be cheaper if large amounts of waste

This is our carpet, so yeah it's available in both, so clearly my Tappi quote is far higher than it needs to be with a bit of ordering myself etc

Not sure I can change the Mrs' mind on this one. Gotta hope the cats stick to the sofa and the trees.

Try and find a carpet with a van which has demos of carpets in the van

That is what I did - so they bought the carpet and it probably had a markup but it was cheaper than buying at a retail shop
It also takes all the aggro out in terms of they bring it already cut up to your room size etc

We looked at a similar at John Lewis, albeit from a local independent. Anyway, it looks very much like the stuff that is rated 1.5 stars on JL because after a few months it turns into fuzzy felt. Not saying it’s the same but do some research. And cats will love it (ask me how I know!).

I've also found that manufactuers sell the same carpet under different brands / colour names in different stores to reduce people doing this.
Just like beds then, try finding the same bed in two different stores to compare prices. It can't be done, each brand names their beds differently for different stores.
The way to find this is to find the image on one stores web site and do a google reverse image search.

I'll show the Mrs these posts, because I said the same thing to her, including the fuzzy felt concern, but she insists it'll be fine. Maybe I let her make a big mistake then make her pay to replace it.

Anyone had experience of 100% wool 3 ply stair runners?
Had a quote of over £2k for supply and fit a 10m runner with mitred half landings.
I know the carpet can be had for about £130 per metre, and the underlay and grippers aren’t your normal stuff, but it just seems a tad toppy.
Unfortunately, it also seems not every carpet fitter will fit it.
