Or to put it another way 12% on electric and 22% on gas per kwh!

As an aside, the industry are expecting quite a lot of companies to fail this year. Smaller suppliers are losing money hand over fist, and when the government start demanding renewable obligation payments then many won't have the money to pay it, especially as last year's were postponed due to covid.

Those are not available for new customers though, so are irrelevant. Anyone who is on a fixed deal will be paying less than the new deals are available for, because prices have been going up.

With us being at home more for the foreseeable I suspect a switch to Avro might be worth doing, even though my energy prices for the year are going to go up massively (well over 20%).

ks, and the amount we must get held over a barrel importing energy.In my experience it's best not to chase the absolute cheapest price, unless it happens to be with on of the big operators.
The smaller companies just go bust and if they don't they won't have a customers services department worth anything.
Currently with Octopus who state outright they're unlikely to be the cheapest but they have decent customer support when you need it.

What other thread? As for do I work for them or summink? I trade gas and power for a living, so not sure who "them" are, but probably. And do excuse me if I don't have much time for your small number of selected countries, we (the UK) are pretty cheap for gas, on a global scale, because a large amount comes direct from the North Sea we import relatively little from abroad. So yes, while there are cheaper countries, most of Europe and Asia pay more. There is little point comparing the UK price to that of Azerbaijan or Algeria, but when compared with comparable EU/developed countries we pay relatively little.
We seriously considered gas price might go negative last year during lockdown and it was less than 0.5p/kwh, now it's worth (wholesale) 3.4p/kwh, which is more than most suppliers are charging the customer.
My GNE rates with EDF (13.83p electricity, 2.33p gas) ends next month, so I did some shopping.
Can't believe how much energy prices have risen. I usually pay around £150/month for both gas and leccy.
Best new deal is estimated at £245/month! Best deal I can find unfortunately is still with EDF (19.9p electricity and 4.2p gas)
Did this online and had to sign on today for the deal. Downside is that I have to pay fixed amount every month, instead of how much I've used.

If you're on Octopus Energy and have a smart meter then consider switching to their electric vehicle tariff (called GO) even if you don't have an EV. These tariffs don't typically show up on a comparison site.
15p/kwh peak, 5p/kwh for 4 hours overnight. 25p standing charge. It may differ based on your usage, but for me it works out approx 30 - 45% cheaper than their standard tariff. I do have an EV, but I've also shifted the dishwasher/washer into the offpeak times to take full advantage of the lower rate.
They also have some other tariffs (in beta) that allow you to pick the 3/4/5 hour off-peak window at 5.5 / 5 / 4.5 p/kwh, with the windows starting at 20:30.

Account in credit, monthly payments and credit cover the quarterly bill.
I paid £32 p/m yes low usage I’m in my own house with no one else living in.
Sent me a letter saying that after calculations they are increasing my payment to £109 pm.
Huh ! Mind boggled and a phone call didn’t unboggle it either. They made absolutely no sense what so ever with this increase and had zero justification for it .
Told them I’m not in the habit of giving money away for utilities I’m not using so goodbye.

My BG dual fuel contract, which was a pretty good one when compared to what was around last year and was circa £200 less for the year, than my then current BG contract, is up now, oddly when I signed up for it last year it was only visible when viewing available contracts, on the BG website on a tablet in desktop mode, it wasn't visible on a PC or on a mobile device under the mobile view, nor comparison sites, plus when looking for a new contract recently, the name of it isn't available on any of the comparison sites.
Anyway I've signed up to EDF on a 2 year contract which should only be circa £100 per year more, there were a few others that were marginally less, but I'd never heard of the company and the reviews were questionable, so I decided to pay a bit more for so one I'd heard of and also with better and far more reviews.

If you've fixed with EDF I can assure you don't need to pay a fixed DD. Just contact them and say you want to be switched to "Direct Debit Whole Amount Monthly" (or quarterly if that's your preference) and you will still receive the same unit rate, and they'll send a read reminder every month/quarter. If you're on a smart meter then you won't even need to send the reading.
Regarding prices in general - they're all being driven by the wholesale market going mad. It's currently backwardated and energy in 2023 is cheaper than 2022, hence the fixed deals are now all 2/3 years as a one year deal includes solely very pricey energy. It's still going to get worse before it gets better. If anyone reading this is due to renew this side of winter I would suggest you change now. Although strangely, in quite a few cases, suppliers Standard Variable Tariff will shortly appear to be cheaper than the 2/3 year fixe deals, but likely only until March when Ofgem will raise the cap further.
