At present we’re paying £92 per month with Octopus which has just about kept pace with what we’ve been using all summer.
We’ve got a few quid in credit but were just discussing putting it up to cover for the winter months.
Then today we got an email offering us a 12 month contract for £92.76 which we consider well worth signing up for.
That's regardless of the amount of energy you use then ? You can just leave everything on for a year and that's the monthly cost ?We’ve got a few quid in credit but were just discussing putting it up to cover for the winter months.

I think not but don't understand what the 12 month contract means .
Our monthly bill (fixed rates) has jumped by £100 as the CH is now on. I think it must have been colder this year than last as while it's only £2 dearer overall, we've used less electricity due to having new panels which has reduced that aspect.
On Saturday morning I was surprised to find ice on the windscreen.... Beds/Herts border.

If you want to compare this year with last look here
https://www.degreedays.net/
Download the period your interested in and compare numbers the bigger the number the more time it's been below the specified temp (default 15.5c)
Then if you overlay your gas usage you can then see if your using less than you were
For November so far here it's been 79.6hdd. Last year 46.8hdd and last year didn't get as cold as yesterday did in this area and that was on the 31st! When it got to 9.8hdd yesterday was 9.9.
And if I look as I said yesterday was 9.9hdd and I used 40.6kWh last year on the 31st 9.8hdd 51.8kWh so I used less gas with the new boiler heating the entire house to a slightly higher temp

That's an interesting web site/data set. Oct 22 was 90.3 for us vs. 119 this year, which aligns with the extra usage. The delta is equivalent to our 'savings' in September. There are still a few places in the house that I need to find time to insulate this year. Chris Type R said:

Just got a message that the cap is increasing again!
I thought this was anticipated, but due to be not a significant rise ?Energy | Energy price per unit | Energy price per unit |
Type | 1 October to 31 December 2023 | 1 January to 31 March 2024 |
Electricity | 27.35 pence per kWh | 28.62 pence per kWh |
Electricity (SC) | 53.37 pence daily standing charge | 53.35 pence daily standing charge |
Gas | 6.89 pence per kWh | 7.42 pence per kWh |
Gas (SC) | 29.62 pence daily standing charge | 29.60 pence daily standing charge |
https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/changes-ener...
From 1 January 2024, for a typical user paying by direct debit, the unit rate will be 29p/kWh for electricity and 7p/kWh for gas. The average daily standing charge will be 53 p/day for electricity and 30 p/day for gas.

Well that gives you plenty of time to stock up with wood, candles and Damart
Even the 3 year fix seems expensive to me, so we have been reducing usage and have added more solar. Unfortunately our store of free firewood won't be last too much longer than next winter also.Sheets Tabuer said:
I see ofgem wants us all to pay an extra £16 to cover non payers and people who can't afford their bills.
Was coming here to post exactly thatWhat the juddering fk - just because people scape together the cash to pay theirs they should pay some for others too???...I get it's a tiny fraction of my bill but stillC not only have they ruined the market by stopping people switching (so we all just get charged more) they then make you pay for the people can't can't be bothered to pay their own way - just fk off

In isolation, £16 per annum seems an insignificant amount given how much prices have risen - i.e. I'd have expected this value to be higher/bad debts to be greater. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67725424
Just had this from eon.
I think it is basically saying you'll pay £50 less across both fuels but if you use more or less than the average then you will pay more or less than the average.

At E.ON Next we’re always looking out for our customers, so we wanted to give you a bit more info about the £50 saving.
If you get your electricity and gas from us, pay by Direct Debit and use the average amount of energy set by Ofgem (that’s 2,700 kWh of electricity and 11,500 kWh of gas) you’ll pay £50 a year less than the price cap with Next Pledge.
But if you pay a different way, have only one fuel with us, or use more or less energy than detailed above, you’ll see a slightly higher or lower yearly saving against the price cap.
Anyone else find this really confusing? If you get your electricity and gas from us, pay by Direct Debit and use the average amount of energy set by Ofgem (that’s 2,700 kWh of electricity and 11,500 kWh of gas) you’ll pay £50 a year less than the price cap with Next Pledge.
