Yeah - they were not allowed to arrive early, but of course, they did. And if it was cold, they'd run their engines, right outside my bedroom window. I nearly got into a fight throwing eggs at one lorry :-) Getting woken by diesel engines every single morning slowly drives you mad.
I feel bad for the people who live next door to our coach depot. When the depot was built, in 1967, it was on the outskirts of a village three miles from the city. I know modern engines are much quieter, but I try to be as respectful as possible. Only run the engine long enough to build the air - walk around check everything else can be done without the engine running. Turn off the reversing beepers after business hours etc. Some drivers just don't give a fk sadly frown

Anyone who thinks being nice to builders will be reciprocated is going to be sadly disappointed. It's top down thing, I've elderly neighbour's who's life was made hell despite a so called Party Wall Agreement, I only learned what that was from here and them telling me. The two of them are basically jelly now, as for the notion of making them a Bacon Buttie, I'd go for setting out clearly the legislation and making a nuisance of yourself at building control or whatever dept is relevant.
Being nice to a builder on a site next door is like trying to feed a crocodile by hand, it's only going to end one way!

The Party Wall Act etc. 1996 may very well be relevant here too. Please see the attached link:
