Another one here, over 300 quid in credit aas well. I do think its time to revise the fixed direct debit every month.

Checked my Avro account yesterday just to see how much I was in credit and thought about asking for a refund (about £200). Then I checked and saw that account credits are protected so left it. Had no communication from them today so the first I knew about their demise was the 6 O'Clock news, FFS!

ETA DD went out 2 days ago, double FFS!!!

Interesting how all the posters are in credit not debit... all things being equal you'd expect a 50:50 mix... win to the utility companies.

Anyone for SimpoPower plc? Only £50 a month and a 5 year contract. Don't expect any power though!

You will always build up a credit in the summer which offsets a deficit in the winter

I was with Utility Point, bust on 14th. Got an email from EDF saying they'll be taking over, and any credit will be carried over. Looks promising, so far.

I’m probably a bit in debt to them.

Was never hugely keen. Ie, how hard to just email you your statement each month etc.

Website never felt finished.

Cheap for a reason.

Just annoying as I’ll be moving from my current place in 5 weeks and get this feeling it’ll drag out longer than that.

Now who to choose for the new place. At this rate everyone will be going bust hehe

Yeah they say it’s to flatten costs, but if you’re not an idiot who spends all your money, a few hundred quid more in winter and cheaper in summer is no big issue.

An actual PAYG DD on smart meter can’t be hard.

Frankly it was a ridiculous system. They were all pop-up resellers in a price cutting spiral, competition gone wrong.
Some of the resellers are blaiming the regulator for their collapse, Id like to understand the reasons for this? Assumed the same regulator (ofgem) that is now deciding where customers are migrated to, mainly: EON, British Gas or EDF.

There is some confustion out there, many customers are dualfuel so are the electricity prices honoured? Citizens advice is saying not cancel direct debits, but ofgem advice is to cancel it...etc

Similar situation to everyone else, DD went on the 20th and have now canncelled. I have no idea whether we had credit or debit, and now can't get onto the Avro website to download any info, but we'd switched from EON about two years ago - and have paid about £55 a month less over the last two years, so can't complain about that...

OFGEM info seems very clear you won't loose balance (or get any debt wiped off), but it seems inevitable we won't get as good a deal as we did have...

I have and absolutely would cancel direct debits to any failed supplier.

Last time this happened to me a couple of years ago when Breeze went bang it took a month to get moved to another supplier (British Gas). I fully expect it to take longer this time round as the regulators are dealing with so many customers.

That time I didn't have a credit balance on my account and I'd cancelled my direct debit as soon as I'd heard so by the time they worked it all out it was 3 months later when the administrators chased me for the £43 I owed.

The UK energy market has a price cap, which is based on historical market data. The cap applies to some, but not all tariffs. The issue at play is that costs on energy have gone through the roof, but the cap doesn't account for this, so the energy suppliers are forced to sell energy at a (considerable) loss because of the rules set in place by the regulator.

With many fixed tariffs, suppliers will have hedged or bought futures for the amount they'd envisage customers on those contracts using.

Does the customer switch over to the new supplier on the same tariff that they were on with the failed energy supplier?

No. Whatever tariff the incoming/new supplier picks.

Stupid question but we get/got gas and electricity from Avro.

I get we will be moved to a new supplier, but if we cancel the DD to Avro, we won't end up with no gas or electricity right?

Not necessarily. The tariff could be created especially for the incoming customers and wouldn't fall under the cap. Details are here: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/ene...
