Hmm.. I guess I'll just keep topping up the account until they decide to pull their tentacles out!
Speaking of which - anyone else seen this? https://octopus.energy/blog/octopus-toys/
I've put a request in for one of the big ones, it'll be a conversation piece at least!
I also realise that by doing this, I waive all rights of complaint about how much gas & elec costs!
I didn't know about these, my dog would love it so I've applied for a big one, thanks!Speaking of which - anyone else seen this? https://octopus.energy/blog/octopus-toys/

Still no bill or any DD activity from them though, but they definitely know I exist. Apparently the administrators are still sorting stuff out on my account.

My massive Octopus turned up today, well worth the massive energy price hike to get something that’ll entertain a toddler for a few hours.
Mine arrived too. I don't know why I said yes to it as my kids are a bit too old!I realised that Octopus only seem to generate a bill when you submit a meter reading. I used to do my readings monthly but forgot over Christmas. I just did them today which generated a nice 2 month bill throwing my account into £350 debit. I'm sure my previous providers would always generate monthly bills and just use estimates if I hadn't provided a reading.
What struck me from the bills is that normally it's our gas bill which goes up significantly in winter, but initial look at this bill, it seems electricity is significantly up.

Avro certainly used to update monthly. I did the same as you and went from £15 positive to £250 negative. Over 2 months, that doesn't sound too bad, but we were away for few weeks of December. What struck me from the bills is that normally it's our gas bill which goes up significantly in winter, but initial look at this bill, it seems electricity is significantly up.
Anyone else read the Greg from Octopus email...
"At the moment, customers on standard variable tariffs are protected from price rises until the Government price cap is updated in April. That means for an average home, we are currently buying energy for about £2000 and selling it for £1300.
However, when the cap is updated, it’s likely a typical bill will rise over 75% compared to the same time last year. That’s another £60 a month: a huge burden for most homes"
There is some other interesting bits too re options on central help / smoothing the cost which we know are unlikely to be heeded.
"Currently the Warm Home Discount is funded by a social levy that applies to all energy bills, so increasing support for eligible customers will lead to even larger increases for everyone else."

Does this sound right given the price increases etc? Anyone else had a similar increase?
When I was with AVRO we were paying £110 p/m which probably wasn’t quite enough to cover our useage. Something like £140 to £150 would have been about right. I had just £18 credit on the account when they went under.
In the transition to Octopus, I missed a month’s payment and then continued at £110 for a couple months which has ended up me being now somewhere between £380 and £600 quid in arrears. It’s very difficult to tell as the account balance seems to fluctuate all over the place depending at what point in the month I look at it relative to when payments are made and meter readings are given.
At the start of the year I increased my dd to £250 but I could not really tell what impact that was having on my account yet for the above reasons.
They emailed me yesterday to say that I need to up my DD to £380 to claw back the deficit over the next 12 months and then it will settle to £350 after that to cover normal use
Does that sound like a realistic increase in the current climate?

That sounds just like what has happened to mine; here are my figures:When I was with AVRO we were paying £110 p/m which probably wasn’t quite enough to cover our useage. Something like £140 to £150 would have been about right. I had just £18 credit on the account when they went under.

Avro £75 p/m (which, looking at the yearly usage, was spot on).
£40 in credit when Avro went bust, also, like you, one DD missed between the change from Avro.
Then £75 for 4 months with Octopus (until this month's payment).
4 weeks ago they said it would increase to £140 for the next 6 months, and then, after than it would be £120 (but of course this did not take into account the increase coming in April).
So yesterday I got a new email; £168 for the next 12 months, and then £155 there after.
That means an overall change from £75 to £168, i,e. 125% increase.

Got ours yesterday, 150 up to 320 odd. New boiler time.
My boiler man reckons changing my 25 year old boiler to a new condensing type will give me 5% gas savings, but will probably only last 10-12 years before some fragile electronic component will render it dead (no doubt in the middle of winter).Looks like Octopus was doing their numbers yesterday.
Under Avro I was paying £135 pcm
Missed 2 payments due to the switch.
Account currently £402 in debit
Octopus have said new payments from next month of £295
Nearly £300 a month on energy. Madness.
Our last months actual usage was only about £150 which shows just how much the prices are going up next month.

Well the £340 debt that I thought had disappeared into the ether has now suddenly become a thing on an Octopus invoice they sent, six months later…
The octopus balance was zero and it was all zeroed off.
No terms associated with it. No ‘you must pay’
I assume Octopus can’t take on this debt, but if I pay they’ll pass it on to the Avro administrators.
I think I’m going to remain quiet
