I really like it too, although you'd never actually want to go down to that part of the Coastal Plain, I think.
Definitely designed for entertaining guests. I like it a lot. Plenty of parking spaces for my bargain barges/motorcycles etc, too.

Nice. It would be rad if the garage was built into the hill at the rear and joined up to the house. Schlepping through the elements between car and house seems a bit strange.

You'd need a fast car in that garage to get away from the local area as quickly as possible. Lots of lovely parts to North Wales, but that's not one of them!

Middle of nowhere and a nightmare if you suddenly run out of milk

Other than that it's nice, though barn needs sorting
Can't match pic 11 with the floorplan?
No, i'm struggling

It should be the back door/porch with the glazing and external door, according to the floor plan

Enlighten me
It's the Sun Lounge but they've missed the window off the plan

One of the finest country houses in the South
Designed by Lutyens for the Charlie Dimmock of her day. Yes I know she was more famous than Charlie

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/124046942#/...

Couple of downsides - will need a couple of full times gardeners, as not only is the House Grade 1 listed but so is the garden

In principle it looks lovely but dare I say it maybe just a tad bleak especially in the long winter months?
Oh an apparently you can't take cats, myth and folklore abound it seems.

No cats might be to avoid impacting the local wildlife, if there’s no cat currently on the island…

Absolutely glorious. I worked there for 7 years and adore the place, but winters are rough - only get daylight from about 8am to 3:30 (iirc) and in summer the sun doesn’t set at all on midsummer day! It is a truly wonderful place to be but I wouldn’t live there, as beautiful as it is when the sun comes out, it’s like that for 30 days a year and the rest of the time it’s gloomy. Almost always windy (there’s a reason there are no trees!) and the sea is fooking freezing, surprisingly mild air temps in winter and summer too - like there’s a bungee pulling the Shetlands permanently towards 12c biggrin

Is it just the garden walls, gates & other permanent fixtures that form the listing or the whole of the garden?

Can understand the former, but can't figure out how the latter would work. Are you not allowed to plant certain things, do you have to keep to a maintenance regime & if so, how is that enforced and what would happen if you let it lapse?

I wondered myself. Found this

https://historicengland.org.uk/advice/technical-ad...

Historic gardens and archaeology
The most important historic gardens and landscapes in England are registered and included in the National Heritage List for England (NHLE). There are over 1,650 sites.

Their special interest is taken into account in making decisions about planning applications. Other gardens can be locally important and may be on your authority’s local list or local register of historic gardens.

If your garden is important for its historic design or archaeology, find out more about it before planning alterations.

If you live in an area where there is important archaeology and you intend to make changes to your garden, first check with your local planning authority or Historic England to see if it is on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens or designated as a scheduled monument and whether any controls apply - for example, where works such as earth-moving/landscaping is being proposed.

More advice on looking after historic parks and gardens is provided in our technical guidance.
