No idea but I'm too old (and would be too rich) to worry about it. biggrin

I could happily live near the coast, but there's now way on God's green earth that I could bring myself to pay £5m to live on the Isle of Wight.

What's up with IOW? I've never been, so can't comment.

I'm not anti-IoW at all actually. I live in Southampton and regularly get the ferry over to cycle around the island. It has some stunning, quiet roads and fantastic scenery. Bits of it are quite affluent and have had a lot of money spent on them in recent years but there are also some serious poverty issues, not helped by the fact that if you want or need to work, there aren't that many jobs that aren't tourism-based and getting off the island to work on the mainland is a pain and expensive.

And even if you don't need to travel for work, just getting to the mainland for social visits, going on overseas holidays, etc is a total faff.

It always feels a little bit like you've stepped back in time 20 years when you go there. Nice for a holiday but not quite so appealing as a full time lifestyle choice.

The only people I know who live on the island do it because they get a lot more property for their money compared to the mainland. That place at £5m doesn't look particularly good value to me.

It isn't to be fair, but a stunning view.

£5m for the Isle of Wight? That's inflation for you.

You have described it identically as I would have done. Fine for a day trip or even a weekend, but scratch under the surface and its not great in parts and would be dull as ditchwater (well, Freshwater) if you are not an OAP.

I lived walking distance from the Red Jet in Southampton so would often take new dates over to Cowes for a night out as something leftfield. My brother also worked for Wightlink for years so would take the car over on freebies. Fine to visit, wouldn't ever want to live there. Especially not for £5m.

I can’t imagine owning a farm, a village and a pub! Fantastic though.

I'm really not seeing the appeal, unless one is interested in the commercial elements.
