Do properties with a more modest price tag and footprint qualify for inclusion on this thread?

As it is just myself and Mrs Sternhammer, now, most of the places posted on her, though lovely, would be a complete waste for us. For me, I would just like something with a pretty view to look at through at least one window, a little peace and quiet, enough bedrooms to turn one into an office and have guests stay in the other and something a little architecturally interesting, with a manageable garden.

On that basis, This would do very nicely, thank you.

My bold - and in answer, certainly in my opinion - absolutely yes yes

Most of my favourites from this thread are all at the modest end, and within the context, some of the smallest properties.

The more modest ones are the best finds. It should be easy to find something that looks amazing for several million pounds - the more affordable stuff is more interesting as a result.

Agreed.

Also, the view from that window is sensational!

This back on the market in Lower Nidderdale. Advertised last year as a newly completed house, now dressed up to look lived in ? Nice spot but not really my cup of tea. Seems devoid of any soul.

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/132933131#/...

Exterior designed by an architect.

Interior designed by a penny pinching developer with a lack of logic and taste.

What really irks me is the lounge TV almost touching the ceiling and some random floor standing speakers crammed in around the silly media/fake fire wall.

Spotlight grid spam is alsotypical of a lazy/clueless developer and simple lighting design can transform an interior without costing that much!

Agree with all of the above, and all points relatively easily fixed. What cant be fixed is the plot location. The design and concept would have worked much better if it wasn't just plonked on a plot of land behind a row of main street houses halfway down the hill.
That’s my take on it too.

For over £2m I’d want views of the countryside, not other houses

something like this would be perfect for me, enough greenery, far enough from neigbours etc.
Definitely a lot going for it but picture 6 of the complex staircase arrangement is a design disaster.

This is going to resonate with about 6% of readers of this thread given *neighbours*, but would love to live in the quiet residential streets of North Oxford. Such a great vibe. Just a bit spendy
Here would be fine

If its good enough for a Rothschild, I'm sure I could cope.

Only negative is I would want the court yard as well.

Compare and contrast the two previous properties at similar prices.

Well yes, but also compare the locations. Move that one down south, and it would be a fortune.

It’s very nice though!

Peak Oxford is very peaky indeed isn't it. Even the nondescript is well into 7 figures in that sector along Banbury and Woodstock Roads

Its a no brainer for me. Move the Malton house into Surrey and you would have to find an extra 10 million. If you really needed to be down south Id rather put that 10 mil into a chopper and fly there.

Pretty cheap in comparison to £10M!

Jetranger for a couple of hundred grand, and operating cost (if self flying) of a couple of hundred quid an hour.

I'd rather have a wheel equipped treble two and paint it black and white for full effect.....

I would sooner be in Yorkshire to be honest.

As soon as I see a snooker table or swimming pool I,m immediately put off, I know I'm strange.

......checks floor plan of the Malton house......

How about a 'golf putting area' on the second floor?

A snooker table - a quickly and easily removed item - puts you off? Seriously?! Notwithstanding the notion of the current owners taking it away before sale.

Even a swimming pool is relatively easy to get rid of.

Kinda reminds me of the PH'er who'd lose her rag at the mere existence of a hot tub hehe

It's also quite mad sometimes, which is part of the attraction. I mean, everything about this place below in Jericho is bonkers, including the price, but I bet they've hosted some great parties.

So it was. beer

I’d rather live down south in something more modest as I grew up here, but I do wonder how many amazing places (at a lower budget!) aren’t accessible due to the vagaries of supply and demand compared with up north.
