I've never set up my wiser plug as a range extender, however, a few weeks ago when I was out I got a notification on the app that the plug and 3 trv's suddenly went offline.
When I got home, I power cycled the plug and everything came back... Seems obvious the plug was acting as a range extender for them trv's.
As the instructions don't have a timeline for powercycling the hub a plug could become an extender anytime you happen to turn the hub on and off. When I got home, I power cycled the plug and everything came back... Seems obvious the plug was acting as a range extender for them trv's.

I use a range extender, seems to fix the problem of a couple of trv's disconnecting but the lack of an engineering interface where you see signal levels is really frustrating.
This is the second one as the first one committed suicide by electron when switching a fluorescent lamp off, the really cheap remote switches will switch that lamp on and off without batting an eyelid but the really expensive bit of junk from wiser is a one shot wonder.
The link about adding a range extender above implies that signal strength can be viewed from the app following installation of a range extender. I checked. It can't it also means I have no way of knowing it is successfully operating as a range extender. This is the second one as the first one committed suicide by electron when switching a fluorescent lamp off, the really cheap remote switches will switch that lamp on and off without batting an eyelid but the really expensive bit of junk from wiser is a one shot wonder.
They put an update out on 12th Jan, more cobblers about a rare android crash problem when the app starts, crashes and needs to be started again, so frigging rare they actually fixed it.

The signal strength indicator was removed from the app and the room stats some time ago. It generated too many support calls.Audis5b9 said:
Anyone else having issues with the supplied batteries?
I've had one set need replacing after 7 days, and another after 6 weeks. Was expecting 6-9 months!?
Old stock been sitting around a long time??I've had one set need replacing after 7 days, and another after 6 weeks. Was expecting 6-9 months!?
I did post the stats on my battery life a while back - longest from memory is 377 days and shortest was 225 days
Distance and walls between TRV and the hub have a large impact on battery life but I wouldn’t be happy with your experience

Not something I would be too surprised or bothered about, they will supply batteries just to get you going, they will be cheap and unlikely to be top quality to keep their costs down.I've had one set need replacing after 7 days, and another after 6 weeks. Was expecting 6-9 months!?
The demand on the batteries to open/close valves, etc isn't constant, add in software updates plus you could have a poor set of batteries that have just died early.
Fit some decent batteries and carry on, I use Energiser Max which work fine.
I am frustrated I can't use normal rechargeable batteries and have to contribute to the waste battery mountain..

Thats what I've done, it's just not what I would expect at the relatively high price point these products are. The demand on the batteries to open/close valves, etc isn't constant, add in software updates plus you could have a poor set of batteries that have just died early.

Bought through Amazon, so I suspect it wont have been sitting around for too long.. but you never know. I did post the stats on my battery life a while back - longest from memory is 377 days and shortest was 225 days

Hi, an old thread, but hoping you are still there
I am thinking about drayton wiser for a system that runs from a thermal store.
In our case we have a wood burner loading the store so won’t use the boiler firing mechanism.
However we don’t want to run the ufh even if there is a call for heat when there is insufficient heat in the thermal store. Is there some input to the wiring center that takes a cylinder thermostat so that this would work?

Hi rwski - it's not an old thread, it's very current.I am thinking about drayton wiser for a system that runs from a thermal store.

I have a similar use case to you - I have a biomass boiler that heats my 2000L thermal store. I then use the Wiser system to turn my central heating pumps on (via the boiler's control systems). The Drayton Wiser system doesn't 'know' how hot the circulating water is, it just knows to circulate the water, so no, I don't believe it can take an input based on temp. You might be able to use the hot water control (which I'm guessing uses a thermostat input) to switch the central heating control, but it will take some external components and some jiggery pokery at a guess. I don't use the HW side of the Wiser system, my boiler takes care of the DHW switching.
Couldn't you just run a cylinder stat in series with the demand signal from the UFH. Something like https://plumbingsuppliesdirect.co.uk/salus-ct100-c...
Indeed, we now 3 bars for signal level under the devices tab but not under a device detail tab?? at least there is something...
Doesn't show the level a repeater/switch sees or whether a device is seeing the hub signal directly or via the repeater, very basic and if you hoped to see numbers prepare to be disappointed.
