Got honked on one of these earlier .. they assumed W-E priority, I was already proceeding N-S, to add to the complexity there was a car waiting to cross E-S who was giving way to me

How do you treat priority in this situation? No give way lines on the road, new estate, I assume it’s a shared street type arrangement

If there are no stop or give way lines on any direction making it an “unmarked crossroads”, technically, nobody has priority, but you fall back on general rules of the road.

The first person to arrive at the junction usually has right of way
If you’re turning right, you should give way to other traffic

Well now I have to make doubley sure it's clear and politely let everybody else go first.

No doubt the knobber behind stopped too close behind you to zip around, so just as they get so frustrated as to reverse to think about the overtake, I'd imagine the road would clear and I'd be free to proceed.

Not that bit, the bit where Catebram stated those who gets there first have right of way and you have to give way when turning right.
