What age did you buy the 'forever' house?
Discussion
I’m not sure I really think of it in the formulaic sense of “forever home” but we bought a 4 bed detached place last year at 36/31, nice area, decent garden etc. I see no reason for us moving on from here, Is this “settling”? Perhaps in some peoples views, but our motivations to “progress” involve working less, winding down our working life.
Not sure about the concept of "forever home".
Whilst i love the house we're in, i'd imagine we'll downsize in our retirement years, and in doing so prepare for our later years where stairs etc could be an issue. So likely a bungalow or apartment with lift access.
That said, that may well not be on this land mass. We may well retire to warmer climes.

The people who’s forever home is purchased when still relatively young, or is their second home etc, I assume the majority of these people are not motivated by career/money/progress etc and just happy to settle.
I can’t imagine most people start off with aspirations to live in in an end of terrace/semi detached 2 up 2 down.

I grew up in lovely houses when living with my parents, I now live in a 2 up 2 down. Purchased when I was 21 I will stay here forever. Its just what you value in life, I don't align my aspirations with the house I live in. I love my little house many people wouldn't.
To answer the OP myself - I haven't bought my forever home yet, that's going to be my next (2nd) purchase. I'm 43, for reference.
I was 33 when I bought it. Georgian manor house in four acres, close to Cambridge and commutable to my desk in Mayfair in just over an hour. Swimming pool, tennis court, long drive, no neighbours, triple garage, large sheds, lots of mature trees.
I'm now nudging 60 and thinking of downsizing. It's a family house and mine are grown up and almost fledged. Two of us rattling around in a 7,500ft2 house seems a bit pointless. The wife thinks the grandkids will come and stay but,as I point out:

- None of the kids are in a relationship nor seemingly want to be
- The grandkids will have other stuff to do (we rarely visited our parents when the kids were small)
- Rent a villa in Tuscany for a month over the summer and the little buggers will be over in a flash.
