Recommendations can be taken with a pinch of salt.
You have to have at least some responsibility for letting this happen. Aside from not getting one trade to do another's job, get a detailed written quotation and go look at some of their previous jobs.

You'll be a lot more careful now with the next person than you were originally.

Looks like a skip after a refurb. Lots of little random offcuts of skirting in a pile.

Tell me you didnt pay for that

hehe

If the corner parts were bigger it would have worked, like plinth blocks which are a nice way to join one bit to another bit.

Haha,
When I saw the first photos I was thinking a plinth block would have been a better solution .

Because it’s not scribed to the floor .

Because it was fitted by a floor fitter, not a carpenter biggrin Scribing to the floor and wall is pretty basic stuff!

Just lining the top of the profile up should be sufficient.

You’d hope a competent floor fitter wouldn’t have such vertical deviations over such a short span to need a few mm of vertical scribing there.
Aren’t floors meant to be, err, flat?

The right hand skirting board hasn't been secured yet as I'll push it down when I fix it to the wall. I just put it in position to check the scribe before glue and nails

Ah sorry, thought it was a ‘finished’ example.

It’s dangerous to show unfinished skirting images around these parts winkhehe

Actually looking at the bit on the right, is it 'riding up' the bit on the left, i.e. is a smidgen higher?

In my opinion that is not acceptable. That is easy to sort. As I mentioned earlier, don't sit skirting direct on the floor. If you pack up 1mm or so all the way around, you could pack that in a way that it would line up and not noticeable. Having some skirting sat on the floor and some not doesn't look good.
