POE or WiFi and battery? If the latter, that's a pain in the arse.

Probably not the best solution, but it's been OK so far.

I've got Blink cameras set up outside our home all around the perimeter and several inside. I get real-time alerts on my phone when these are triggered (you can adjust the sensitivity etc to limit false alerts and change the zoning to avoid the road etc).

I've also got a wireless alarm from ERA, multiple alarm boxes, PIR's, doors/window sensors and control panel. Comes with RFID tags to disable on entry or you can use the app to arm/disarm multiple zones etc. The beauty of this we both have the app and my BIL also has it to check on the house when we are away.

Installed everything myself and other than swapping batteries it's been pretty reliable for the last 4-5 years.

Have a look at Simplisafe as well. We have their alarm and internal cameras, and will be installing their outdoor cameras at some point to replace a failing wired CCTV system. Monitoring is available as a monthly subscription, which also acts as an extended warranty, so if anything fails it gets replaced at no cost. It's all wireless and self-install, which is really easy.
