All the warmth of a Travelodge.

Horrible.
The garden is hugely unimaginative as well.

It's a Huf Haus. I think they are interesting - fabulous engineering (they are prefabricated, arrive on a lorry from Germany and go up in a matter of days) - and I really quite like them.

It is worth looking out the Huf Haus Grand Designs episode. Everything specified and built in at the factory. The only delays were from the UK contractors. The German bits turned up on time (to the minute) and as ordered.

However, I'm not sure I could live in one, or that they quite work in the UK landscape. I always think they'd make fabulous ski-chalets. I'd want amazing views from those windows, not looking into my neighbours bathroom. You can't really have clutter, either and one thing I do is clutter.

And these are nice, built in traditional materials:

That I do like. Furnished well and with some weathering to the outside I think it would be very me.
The only thing wrong with that is something that narks me about a lot of new builds. Unless you intend to run a B&B, not every fking bedroom needs an ensuite.

It's nice for the guests, and it's nice for the master suite, but the kids just don't need a bathroom each. They just don't.

I used to think this until a friend with four teenage daughters having sleepovers pointed out the error of my ways. And on a new build a bathroom costs about as much as a fridge freezer, they're just not an expensive luxury anymore.

You either buy very expensive fridge freezers or very cheap bathrooms.

I suspect the only thing fun about having four teenage daughters is the constant fun of answering the door to their dates, in your pants, holding a shot-gun.

Indeed - I've just done 2 x bathrooms cost £10k+ each...

I take it you don't clean them yourself.

Exactly. I'm assuming the have one-way glass or something because I'm always walking around in the buff when I get out of the shower and wander into my bedroom to get dessed - and that's not a prety sight hehe

In terms of affordable French real estate porn...

£320k gets you this in Charentes:

That is an absurdly low price, even in the current French market.
Time to start the French course.
My word that is just absurd.

So much for relatively so little compared to what we have to spend.
The last picture does make the location look rather awkward,

I mean can you imagine the kids playing out there when one of the 5 or 6 cars that comes past every week drives by?

More of this sort of thing please smile

We nearly bought a Huf Haus about 8 years ago but pulled out at the 11th hour because in the end I could not really justify the cost. Our house was going to be about 4800 sq ft and the build cost not including the land or foundations was coming in at just under £600k. Now the concept was great, the quality outstanding and their ability to build to very exact timescales was very attractive.

What put me off eventually was that I could see them becoming popular and therefore what were unique back then becoming a relatively common site. And my fear has come to pass.

The other main thing was the price, too be honest I did not think they were good value for money back then and are even less so now as they have got a lot more expensive. You are looking now at about £1800 - £2000 per sq meter which is about £930,000 for a 5000 sq ft house which considering what you get is just not good value. If you then decide to up spec your hardware expect the price to head well above a million.

For that money I think you can get a similar build quality with all the Huf efficiencies for less and have a totally unique house

Why would I clean my friends' daughters bathrooms? Did you a) read, and b) comprehend what I said?

Surely that's why you have an en-suite for the master bedroom and a seperate bathroom for everyone else?

While cleaning your friends' daughters bathrooms is clearly uppermost in your thoughts, please read it without a dirty mind laugh It was just a comment on the amount of cleaning required, whether by you personally or anyone else ('you' being the plural form as well). Wind your neck in wink

Think you need more than a Euromillions win for some of those. The prices are simply astronomical.
