Well I'm sure you know what I meant when I said that - during the build - they aren't that expensive to bung in. I'd want a better quality than basic and would happily pay more but you can get a whole bathroom suite for less than £200.

See here: http://www.betterbathrooms.com/bathroom-suites/?gc...

Anyway, on with the house porn...

Nice NY apartment for only $48,000,000

i think if i was living in NY I'd prefer a house... like the one off the cosby show. Outdated ref but is there any need to spend $48M on a flat like that? Seems way overpriced for what you get

Having built and sold many upmarket houses, I can say that the buyers definitely look for an ensuite with each bedroom. If you dont have that, you will find it harder to sell for the price

I get it, but I'm not convinced. Maybe it's because I come from a family of boys, or maybe it's because I'm Northern, but I stand my ground. I'd love to build my own place, maybe in 15 years, with teenagers of my own I'll be able to afford it. But I don't intend to have an en suite in each room. If you're not careful the bedrooms start to feel like a Travel Lodge.

I hear what you're saying about having everyone around for Christmas, but to me, part of the fun of those situations is everyone mucking in to fit in the house. If it means the kids have their cousins sleeping on the floors of their bedroom, or they make tents in the lounge to have a big sleep over, that's the sort of family home and memories I'd like. When they are teenagers, I think the hardship and understanding needed to share a bathroom will build character.

Anyway, I'll go find some nice houses to post, instead of ranting. hehe

I suppose the ensuite thing is very different between new build and 600 year old houses.. new build you might as well chuck them in, in old houses they dont really have them. We have none, and all 3 of our upstairs bathrooms are next to each other, weird.

If you're looking at a new build, in the Devon area, I like this:

To be honest, if I had £3m to play with, I'd want to build my own, but the above is still very nice...

We're all different, each to their own etc. In this case I suspect you are not the correct demographic for this kind of property. Remember, most people at the higher end of the property market will have a cleaner so extra toilets to clean is not an issue.

That sounds like a very good argument for moving back into a 2-bed, 1-bath flat.

And these are nice, built in traditional materials:

That is lovely. It's huge!

One major problem for me - absolutely ste garden. Zero character. Plus I think you'd need a full time light bulb changer!!

Sadly, you're not bloody kidding! However it trickles down to the level that we were at a few years ago. We were looking for a two bedroomed flat, so we would have a spare room for guests, storage, and when kids come along, we wouldn't have to move immediately.

There is no point in more than one bathroom in a small two bedroom flat. We're talking about the size of flat that a couple, or two single housemates could live in. Something at a pretty cheap end of the market. Something very small that really needs the extra storage space that is taken up by an extra bathroom that a young couple or pair of flatmates wouldn't need.

I realise I'm getting all ranty now, so I'll step down. I'll go and try to find something nice to look at now, to offset this rant!

Oh look it's got one of those sliding fence panels for annoying neighbours.
