How much for 20meter square Carpet?

Looking at getting a decent carpet for our lounge, and this will be a first carpet purchase with either tiles or wooden floor laid though out our house.

We have got a few prices for out lounge and they are between 700 and 850 £ including underlay.

Is this too much?

Any recommendations, im in essex.

Doesn't sound too awful to me. It all depends on the quality of the carpet
We had 5 bedrooms done and the long landing and stairs for the same price but we used the cheapest carpet around with expensive underlay because we didn't like anything and needed to move in a hurry. It will be replaced room by room as the children and cat ruin it.

if you're looking to save some money have a think about some 100% synthetic stuff rather than any of the natural fibres or mixes.

I faffed around for ages to get some stuff for my hall, stairs and dining room, eventually plumped for the cheapest thing in the warehouse, in the region of £7-8psm, and some decent underlay.

It'll last forever, is virtually stain resistant, looks fine and unless you spend your time on your hands and knees pressing your cheek into the pile of the carpet you'll never know its a cheapo.

ETA for about 20sqm I think I paid about £500 including a good underlay and a further £100 for the fitter. (underlay was more expensive than the carpet!!)

Mum has bought a 32ft by 15ft piece of a contract guy who does offices & hotels. It was 550 & 2 pieces of underlay were 45 the two. All legit took cheques, liveried van etc.

quality of carpet varies massively. After our last house I vowed never to get cheapy again. So went completely the other direction and got one that was way overpriced LOL. Weight of the weave will vary depending on use profile of the room so get a heavy weight if it's a high traffic room. The price you've been quoted seems reasonable IME though.

Of course if you're only likely to be in the house for 2 or 3 years get cheap, it's going to last that long easily!
