My Finn forest cabin in the back garden is in dire need of some TLC. It's has been neglected all over the winter and there is green mold on some of the wood. I am going to sand down the wood today, but will also like to apply something to it so it's ready for the winter ahead. At the same time I would like to change the colour of the cabin to a forest green, so it blends in with the ivy/hedge behind it.
Can anyone recommended me something suitable?

Thanks
DJ

Don't sand the mould off, just use a scrubbing brush and a bit of water. Allow to dry thoroughly.

Can't really help on the preservative / staining stuff, I used some TimberCare stuff last year but its not been on long enough to tell how long lasting it's going to be.

I've got a Finnlife Reikko (shed at back, summer house at the front)

I treated the base wood with 3 coats of cuprinol 5 star wood preservative (goes on clear, using one of the handheld pump spray guns). Make sure you rub down your green mould first, i'd prob. go for scrubbing brush, elbow grease and a 50/50 mix of water and household bleach.

Leave for a day for the 5 star to soak in, then i applied 2 coats of Cuprinol Heritage wood paint.

Should then only need 2 coats of exterior paint every 2-3 years after that. Mine still looks perfect.

We used this stuff on our coal/bike shed and it hasn't had a single problem.

We've only used Sikkens wood stain, expensive but gives a professional looking job. It is solvent-based and soaks into the wood to show the grain. Depends what you want, some wood stains are acrylic-based and tend to be like a paint that sits on the top of the wood.

Used Osmo Wood Stain & Protector (Basalt Grey) on my Finn Forest Lampi cabin.

They do a range of colours;

That is the sort of green that i am after and i would like to see the wood grain, rather than just have the paint on top. But my god that Osmo paint is really expensive!

Yeah, we've been very happy with it.

We use the front part as a garden store room for all the kids toys and the rear for tools, mowers etc.

The only upgrade i'd make is the windows are thin acrylic and could do with being thicker (an easy job)

We've put a concrete base down and i wouldnt underestimate the work needed to put one of these up. We had 2 builders do it over 2 full days, the shingle roof is tedious work! We included all electrics etc and it could be used as an office if need be.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's 'kinnel expensive or reassuringly expensive! However, my cabin looks as good today as when I painted it for the first time last year. Once the weather stabalises a bit I'll be giving it this years coat (with a spray gun this time). I used just under half a 2.5 litre tin on my Lampi.
