Im renting a place and handed in the notice so move out in 3 weeks. I work away in the week and the letting agent wants to get a set of keys cut so they can show people around in the week. I'm not happy about this as it's my home I'm paying fr and I leave all sorts of thngs around that could be stolen plus I don't want lots of people I don't know walking around my flat for the next 3 weeks. What's normal at teh end of a tenancy? Do I have rights to say no to viewings unless I'm there? Am I being unreassonable or is this a common concern amongs tenants?

Right to access to show potential future tenants or purchasers near the end of a tenancy should be set out in your tenancy agreement. I believe that it is common practice as the landlord wants to minimise dead time between tenants.
Check your contract and see what each parties rights are.

Notwithstnading your contract you have the right to quiet enjoyment and you can say no to any viewings. It might be fairer if you suggest that you will do the viewing given a certain notice and at mutually agreed times...

But it isn't actually your place, although you do of course have a right to quiet enjoyment.

It's not unreasonable for a Landlord to wish to show potential tenants around but make your concerns known to them or their agent.

You could ask them to time visits to try and suit your diary too.

Your contract will set out about viewings.

If it doesn't then you are within your rights to reject.

Thanks folks - the contract says I need tp provide access, I'm just pissed off as so far this year they've come around for 3 differetn gas boiler replacement estimates, one guy didn't show up after taking the morning off work and now they want to arrange 2 more seperate boiler estimates, a HIP and then several viewings a week. It wont feel like my flat anymore if they do that and I worry about a lot of valuablaes I've got lying around, plus of course some guy having a key to my place.

It's only for 3 weeks.

Can't you put your valuables somewhere safe for the time being?

I'm sorry, but a lot of this is drivel. Your overriding right is quiet enjoyment, regarding what the contract says. You can insist on no viewings, or use this as a lever to arrange convenient times. This would be in your landlords interest anyway - your house may be in a mess if you have not been warned. Hey David, thaks a lot that's a really useful link and very kind of you to post it. I'm going to speak to them tomorrow and see if we can agree on getting all viewers over when I'm around at the weekend.

Stick to your guns. I will not let our LL in whilst we are not at home and have refused to allow estate agents in for viewings while we were not at home. They do them on a weekend only and over a period of half a day only.
The way I see it is that I am paying for use of that house so they can bloody well work round me. That or they can pay my day rate if they want me at home during the week.
