'You fking idiots. Do you know what time it is. You've woken my daughter up'

Those were the words from some woman who lives in the flats backing onto my garden.

I was trying to angle grind some concrete (with no luck). I had been doing it for about 2 minutes (though not 2 minutes of continous noise) when I stopped and gave up. I took off my ear defenders and then heard the woman shout (she lives 2 stories up so I could see her.

I didn't reply as I had my dust mask on (and couldn't think of anything to say). I just stared at her and she eventually went back in. After that I stopped anyway and did soemthing else.

I didn't actually know what time it was but as it happens I came in at 8pm and so it must have been between 6.30 and 7pm. Is that too late on a Saturday?

Funny thing is just before I came in my neighbour started using his saw to cut some wood and it mad a loud noise as well (though prob not as much as the angle grinder).

Before you start, there was no real chance of me telling her to fk off, but I might tell her to get lost next time. We lvie in a fairly chavvy area so the last thing I need is trouble!

lol

TBH if I didn;t have my mask on and kenw it was only between those times i may have responded, because IMo it is acceptable at that time

I have been having quite a few late night sessions in the garden so for all i knew it could have been 8.30 - which is why i kind of felt guilty and didn;t respond.

And people over here who have the choice- treat me like I'm mad because I have no interest in living down town huddled all together in a rabit hutch

Legally, 11:00 is the cutoff here and 9:00 if you don't want sour looks from yuppies with kids the next day, anything before that is fair game as far I care.

I think it depends what you're doing. Having a BBQ in the garden til gone 11 would be fine I'd say, something like hammering/angle griding, more obnoxious noises, I'd say it's polite to stop doing that about 8pm.

To be fair, anyone with very young kids will be trying to put them to bed from 6ish onwards - easy to imagine how a parent with a toddler that they'd just got off to sleep would feel if their neighbour started angle-grinding 10 minutes later...

In an area with lots of young families just for courtesy I'd stick to before 6pm when possible, s'only polite really.

That said very unnecessary for her to be rude to you, she could have asked nicely that you do that stuff earlier and you'd be far more likely to oblige!

Go buy a mosquito.

Switch it on and leave it on.

Eventually the local teenage suicide rate will go through the roof and her kids won't ever sleep again.

Sit back and enjoy the show.

For something as loud as angle grinding... I'd say it's fair between 9am-6pm.... it is a bit of a penetrating noise, not the same level of noise as an evening BBQ....

I am often in the garage working till nine/ten but wouldn't use a grinder after eight. Can't see what her problem is. I would go with what someone else said and start at 08:00.

It maybe that she was having a hard time with the sprog/child and you just got it in the neck as she was struggling that day.

Depends if the BBQ involves banging dance music until 3am from the house 50 yards down the road or not.

9am this morning and my next door neighbour fires up his mower.
I wouldn't mind but the guy doesn't work, and has all fking week to do it, hence why I was a bit miffed to have my first lie in in two weeks cut short...

hehe and why 9am if he doesn't work? Surely he'd be more used to getting up at 2pm. Or perhaps he hasn't gone to bed yet?

If I'd just got my kids to sleep when they were younger I'd have angle ground your face off yes

The average day with young kids starts around 6AM after a broken nights sleep... Your day consists of fourteen hours of trying to stop a noise like a screaming banshee from occurring and preventing said noisy stty bundle from killing itself. You have to feed it, change it and generally cosset it at all times. You do this for roughly a year and after a while it gets pretty annoying it has to be said.

If you caught a parent at the end of a particularly bad day I'd say you got off fairly lightly yes
