Then take a day off in the week when kids are at school and people are at work.. Nobody wants to be sat at home relaxing after a hard weeka work with some tosser using an angle grinder next door.

Sounds about right. Grinding away on a Saturday night at 7pm in a heavy residential area is the sort of thing a total would do.

Building sites are usually limited to working from 8am until 1pm on a Saturday and no Sunday working to give residents some peace on weekends.
Bit harsh and totally wrong.

Or someone that's just enjoying a hobby?

It's possible that lady has a young child which is a nightmare to get to sleep and once they have been to sleep they will then not go back to sleep again (one of ours is like that so 11pm woken well you are up all night long).

Is it right to be doing heavy DIY work at the weekend? Well imagine you had not informed neighbours and next door has a birthday BBQ then you have someone with an angle grinder (with dust) etc could make it literally impossible to hear conservation at the BBQ. Wouldn't be very good.

Recommend you take a day off work and do it mid week instead of what is the vast majority of people's days off to relax in the garden.

You do realise there are a lot of people who see BBQs just as anti social as making noise?

I recently spent a whole Sunday morning sanding down patio doors by hand as didn't want to inflict power tools on my neighbours, only for some git to spend the entire afternoon using an angle grinder.

Personally, If you have close neighbours, then I think using noisy power tools for any length of time on Sunday's or after about 7pm on a weekday is out of order. If you have a noisy hobby, then best to buy a house in the middle of nowhere.

If thy go on until 2am or are loud into the evening then yes.

But a big family BBQ loads of kids bouncy vastly etc utterly harmless

An hours worth of angle grinder before 8pm isn't going to kill any kittens😁

If kids go to bed at 6pm or anytime before that it certainly is

In our experience sometimes once they wake that's it they are up all night. So billy big balls has a lovely long night sleep but sadly those disturbed by his grinder have none.

Let me get this straight if you know a young family live next door it's "tough" about the noise until 8pm.

You sound lovely.

Wherever you live, whatever the environment or the configuration of your patch, it is always about respect and consideration for others.

Occasionally making noise is unavoidable, If the disturbance is infrequent, like a BBQ, or a bit of light drilling, then that comes firmly in the category of 'that's life'. But otherwise a modicum of discretion is required.

I live in the middle of the middle of nowhere, but would never cut grass or use power tools outside on a Sunday or bank holiday. It's just not the right thing to do.

I do believe that in several European countries, power tool/machinery use is banned on the Sabbath.

Can't see what her problem is.

I think you can...

It maybe that she was having a hard time with the sprog/child and you just got it in the neck as she was struggling that day.
Yeah, you could.

If your hobby means that your neighbours have to put up with deafening noise on the weekends then you need a new hobby or to live well away from people.

Are you suggesting that its ok if someone wants to grind away day and night every weekend because "its their hobby"? Only someone making the noise would think that. Get a quite hobby that doesn't interfere with peoples lives.

Making lots of noise inconsiderately in a residential area on a weekend evening you mean. Oh yes it sure is.

Erm, he wasn't 'grinding day and night', well if he was I hope it wasn't all in the garden smile

Have you even been stuck behind a cyclist on the road? That interferes with peoples life, doesn't mean we should ban them.

You are comparing being out and about on a public road with other traffic etc with being sat in the comfort of your own private home? Try again.

Sounds like you've never had kids.
There is no on and off switch I'm afraid.
