In the lounge or kitchen = chav.
In the mens room or a specific room for entertaining, definately.

Wifeys stepdad and mum have a whole bar at the end of their garden that was modeled on a bar they use in Jamaica. It is a proper structure built around a tree, with a round roof, 3 enclosed sides, lights, wall signs, optics, bar mats, games, 8 speaker hifi setup, and all sorts of drinking/pub related items. It also has seats around the edge, tables in the middle, and a decked area outside and leading up to it.

It can easily accomodate 20 people in comfort and can be shut off in bad weather to create a totally warm and waterproof mini pub basically, so can be used in the winter. It even has a room on the side full of fridges that are filled with beer.

Many happy and drunken evenings have been had up there.

As above. It has to be in a specific location or area for relaxation and drinking. Preferably with a pool table and pin ball machine. Extra points for it being on a mezzanine floor above your stable of interesting motoring exotica.

Or you could do what a friend has done with his garage and turn it into a a mini nightclub with DJ stand, decks, lazer, lights, smoke machine and so on. Many a happy night has been spent there destroying my hearing and brain cells.

Isn't the point of a bar to get out, socialise, meet new people, ogle girls etc?

Only use I could think of for a home bar would be for piling in after hours. And frankly, by then I would be too drunk to not destroy it anyway.

Bad idea.

Oh, and completely council house too.

I have some friends who turned one of their many barns into a fully functioning old English pub - walls several feet thick, oak beams, open fire, hand pull beer etc. It is far from a council house I can assure you. Not everyone has to break stuff and have a fight when pissed.

If done well, they can be excellent fun for parties / BBQs etc.

I don't have a minibar, but I have a full on bar in a summerhouse in the garden that can accomodate up to 17 drunkards.

Its great fun, Porsche themed, fridges, optics and all.

Brilliant in the summer and its surprising how much it gets used in the winter.

No smoking ban, open all night, good music, no chavs, 70 mil measures...what's not to like?

Nope a relatives. Did help build it though. I think the bar top is the best use of old railway sleepers in a garden ever!

OP was talking about a minibar in your house. Different thing.

A barn converted into a pub = different ballgame. And awesome.

Think it might be a bit naff in the living room, especially if it's not a large space.

However can be good if done properly...

Holy crap, that is precisely what my friend and I were talking about building at the end of my garden eek.

Is it yours?
That would be cool if that was in the Caribbean and you had staff, in suburbia it's somewhat less so.

The guy in the middle of that photo is a pro. If you ask me he makes the atmosphere of the 'pub' entirely genuine.

I'll see if I can dig some pics out. They may contain drunken people in random poses though!

It really is quite impressive though, it's been properly done and is the culmination of about 4 years work, extensions and refurbs. He is always changing or doing something on it! Her stepdad used to be a fitter for Sunseeker so the fit and finish is of a very high standard and taste using nice materials, combined with traditional 'tat' that makes it feel homely and comfortable rather than clinical and baron.
