I'm going to decorate my son's room, he's a 17 month toddler. However, I'm stuck for ideas. It needs to be clean, modern and very boyish.

One idea is to paint it blue with a large world map (spanning the entire wall) along one side. Alternatively, it can have Thomas, the Tank Engine wallpaper all over.

Does anyone have anymore ideas?

We did ours in a digger theme, got a themed boarder from ebay, made him a JCB bed and he was happy. Good thing is the front bucket of the digger acts as a store for all his toys.

Just remember how vivid a childs imagination can be in comparison to an adults. Had to recently ask my older son could he take down one of his alice in wonderland posters (new one not the old one) because it was terrifying his younger brother.

Good idea.

Mind you I'd have to mark in all the ex-Empire bits with 'Used to be British but gone to the dogs now'...

Have a look through this blog... http://www.ohdeedoh.com/smile

A world map is always a good idea though! How about one of those big felt ones with animal pieces that you can stick on?

FFS!!!! Haven't any of you lot been a child?
Children under 2 years old are not really that interested in maps of the world, and if you tried to explain it they would think they lived on a large piece of paper.

OP. What does he get excited about watching on TV? The Geography channel??? Thought not!

Have a look at what is currently running on the CBEEBIES tv channel and go from there.

Keep it simple.

Sorry for sounding a bit like a rant, but you get what i mean.
Good luck.

Or space ships, or tractors, or just paint each wall a different colour.

Certainly was 2 once, and there's no harm growing up in an environment full of information. Or of course you can sit them in front of CBBC pumping st into them all day, from which you progress seamlessly to Eastenders.... Learn by doing, exploring, asking, finding out, doing - not staring at the telly. (Of course it does require some parental input)

Agree with the dinosaurs though!

Thanks for some interesting ideas. I am trying to the room in a position where I don’t really need to replace it for a good few years. Using CBBC as inspiration could result in a room that will be behind the fashion in a year or two’s time!

The IKEA map is a good idea and can span one wall and hopefully it will inspire him to great things! I’ve seen some wallpaper at B&Q which I may use for the other walls – http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detai...

If you are dead set on the map theme then this wallpaper is a better bet and cheaper than the Ikea Map. Plus as it genuinely would be the whole wall it would be more effective

I painted my sons bedroom ceiling dark blue, then bought luminous stick on stars and planets.

Bought a moon light, and a couple of space rockets and a duvet cover. easy to update it or add further things.
