There are two kinds of user. One uses twice as much as recommended to do a 'proper job'; the other uses half as much to save money. Nobody uses the recommended rate! When I used to write/proof-read instructions I was told to think of the thickest person I knew, and multiply by 10! And still somebody wrote to me with three interpretations of what a 'square yard' was...
