Chaps,

I'll be stripping out the antiquated central heating in Thrust Towers in the next couple of months but in the short term I'd like to keep the hot water circuit in place.

With the rads empty and that part of the heat exchange matrix also drained, is it sensible to run the boiler? Or will it run far too hot?

(Ideal standard boiler, about 20 years old)

Thought so frown

Does the immersion heater need the hot water pump to be running or can I 'bridge' the boiler out of the circuit (and remove it) and just use the immersion in the hot water tank?

If you drain down the boiler you can use the immersion with no further action, If you wish to use the boiler you will have to cap the central heating flow and return and keep the hot water flow and return and primary flow and return.
