Crow built nest in my chimney!!
Discussion
I've been under a sustained bombing campaign by a Jackdaw pair for 3 weeks. It's incredible, they just drop sticks (branches!) down until they catch. I was dragging about a carrier bag full a day out of the fireplace. Then it stopped...and that's when I realised it had stuck! I took my drain rods and shoved them up there this week and a couple of bin bags full of sticks came down.
I like birds, but any Jackdaws nesting there will come back every year, so I figured I'd get rid of them while they still have time to find somewhere else!

Good old Jackdaws...
The instigators of the great stick burning of '98.
They'd been busily filling the chimney above the living room inglenook all summer.
Come the autumn dad took the register plate out and a five foot high pile of tinder dry ash sticks came down.
Mum said "I'll get some bin bags" and left for the kitchen.
Dad winked at me and struck a match......
Chicken wire over the top of the chimney should stop them filling it up.

Who needs a fire at this time of the year? Clear them out once the chicks have fledged. I'd be dead happy if they nested on my house.
All fine, until the entire family start scratching about at 5am. That gets old fast, especially if the chimney runs through your bedroom..Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
